After growing up for many years i have slowly noticed that shops, councils etc etc are putting christmas decorations up earlier and earlier. Why is this?

It is so anoying, Christmas is after Hallowen not before yet we put decorations up before.

What are your views and how has christmas changed your views from when u was little and believed in father christmas.

I think Christmas has gotten more extreme for the most part, it's awesome !!!
Growing up I was raised in the woods and on the farm, I didn't get to see too much of the city or towns along the way home. I know Christmas on the mountains has always been big. There are a set of 6 mountain tops around the main valley, I'm lucky enough to own the whole north west mountain. It's a compitition every year to have the brightest mountain top from the sky for our Militaries air field. My dad took me in the skies many times growing up just to see what Christmas is like surounding "death valley" :yikes: The mountain tops look to be in perfect triangles on either side of the valley. It's beautiful. All the homes in the valley light up the roadways and our mountain tops light up the sky. I'm glad the decorations come out every year earlier and earlier .. I buy more and more lights. I know in the past 5-7 years we've had more and more airfield traffic and private planes over our mountains during this season, than I've ever had the pleasure to see growing up, it's a great feeling and ohhhh the rolling thunder :D

But ya, Christmas is a big thing for my area ... there are only a few homes I can think of that do nothing.

I LOVE Christmas as much as the next person, I have my house lit up, and decorated as tackily as is humanly possible.. However I think that the 1st of December is early enough to be putting up decorations.. I don't need to see them in October!!

I think all the lights are a huge drain on our resources, think of all the extra electricity consumed during the 2 MONTHS prior to Christmas. Resources we can ill afford!

Also I think that leaving it till later makes it more special, by the time it actually gets to Christmas everyone has already seen all the decorations and they are no longer special or new... It's harder to get into the festive spirit if you have become blasé about it, having seen them since early October.

For the store thing. The stores are putting up their Christmas as they have no choice. Our stock (at Zehrs ) comes in and we put it up and sell it. Stores aren't the ones who decide what they carry. Besides you make the best savings now. In December prices will skyrocket. I love Christmas shopping early =].

It kinda annoys me, it gets me excited to early. They are selling christmas stuff already, and its like as soon as they take down the christmas stuff up goes easter decorations.

What annoys me more is halloween, I mean coem on. It isn't celebrated here so why the hell decorate your shop like it is? Then you get randoms that decide to trick or treat, no-one has lollies so some peole give them money... nice. Just annoys me, do it right or don't do it at all.

LOL I don't like to see Xmas stuff before halloween. For me it has to be crisp and cool if not cold outside to make me think Xmas. I don't want to be reminded winter is coming when I am running around in shorts and a Tee shirt.

I prefer the decorations not go up until after Thanksgiving . . . before Halloween is just . . . tacky . . and from stores, it just looks like merciless commericalism . . . our local Lowes has already cleaned out their garden center to put in Christmas stuff . . . and its not even time to plant bulbs yet!!

well some things are nice and could be used for all year long... but those little santas and xmas trees, should be put in the beginning of december.

To me (A person who has decorated and been Christmas for Halloween) its NEVER too early for Christmas lol.

I used to think it was bad before they put them up on Thanksgiving . . . ;) I don't want to see Christmas decorations before December 1st!

Oh boy, this reminds me of something that happened the first week of October. I was in class and asked the person next to me about her plans for the weekend . . . She said, "I'm putting up my Christmas tree!" And then when I stared at her in utter disbelief she said, "There's only two months left until Christmas, you know." O_o

I hate it all. It drives me nuts. The earliest I've seen it put up is in August. Ugh.

Earliest around here for my personal liking is after November. Of course its when to take them down thats a real problem... after all, it IS Texas. LOL I've seen Christmas lights still up in JUNE! I say, why even take em down if your gonna leave em up that long.

we wait till dec 1st for ours, personally anything before that just kills the magic, i have no problem with twinkle lights being put up as soon as the days are getting shorter as i dont realy consider them truly xmas decoration, but the tree and ornaments and such, no those wait till december...

lol we have to put our tree up about 3 weeks before christmas, too much ealrier and we'd have one very naked gum tree by christmas

I hate to see the displays up early , but merchants' lives depend on sales . I actually saw a house decorated this week !!! We alway cut and put our tree up the day before Christmas . I do go earlier each year just to enjoy ...but never before December .

I saw lights up in a house over 2 weeks ago now.

But it was in Hull. Need I say more ;)

I don't mind it being at the stores so much as I think it is good to start Christmas shopping early, so all money doesn't have to be spent in one lump in December. But house decorations for me go up the weekend after Thanksgiving.

well only 2 months as of today

:lol-sign:

I know .... I put up the farm lights, garlands and wreaths along the fence line and main barn yesterday... just for spite. My farm helpers didn't hesitate when I asked if it was a plan .. they love overtime and free dinners LOL

Because I had the old war cannons restored for July 4th, we moved all 7 of them from the mountain to the main pasture in direct view of the major highways exchanges. One of my helpers decided to decorate the cannons with lights and old man John Deer Model B beside a brand new flag pole ... we'll build the flag pole this afternoon .. I bought a new 8' x 12' American Flag (the biggest I could find on sale) online last night.

People stopped and stared while we were setting up the cannons ... LOL

One older man who could barely walk, bless his heart, asked if he could contribute ground lights for the flag pole, and arrange them like they did in World War II for aircraft as a sign to defend this land. I had tears in my eyes.

This is gonna be the best Christmas ever !!!!

YeeeeHawwwwwwwwwww
