I really, really miss the old Animal Planet.

Today I found myself watching this show where this woman has lots of birds and is working on making a dog "hotel" (so there was some animal stuff in there), but the vast majority of the show was her talking about her famous Hollywood brothel, the jail time she spent for it, and her hitting the casinos. o.0
It's Animal Planet. WHY?

My favorite is Pit Boss. 99% of the time it's a little person actor doing some small gig like delivering a singing telegram or a commercial, and them fighting and talking about their relationships, and then someone drops a dog off, and you never even find out what happens to the dog or anything. Or there's nothing to do with dogs in the whole episode, just once in a while they show a shot of the dog lying in the office or something.

Yeah I've given up on that channel.

I do enjoy Big Cat Diary on the rare occasion that I'm awake at 6am lol.

I was UNREASONABLY emotional during meerkat manor

I was so attached to these little guys lol I honestly felt like I was watching a soap opera.

Then they went and killed off one of my favorites of the new babies and I decided that "reality" animal TV was too much for me and stopped watching lol

I LOVED that show! "Emergency Vets" was hands down the best show ever.

I don't even get the channel anymore, but after looking at the tv guide there is nothing I would watch anyway.

I wish they would make another tv station geared towards animal lovers. (NatGeo is ok, but lacking.)

Haha I remember watching that one as a kid. Some of it kind of squicked me out then, but I so wish it was still on now because I'd totally be into it.

I also liked that one show where they'd follow the pregnancy of an animal. Most of it was "yay kids, let's experience the miracle of birth and breed Princess!" but sometimes they'd have zoo animals on too.

Good God I never realized how much I missed these shows until now lol.

I do wish they would bring back the "old". I miss meerkat manor and a few other shows. I can't remember when the last time I watched AP. The daughter does watch the big cat diaries, but I think that is all reruns now anyway.

yeah I know, I cancelled my subscription to it and tried to get Oasis HD instead... Telus sold it to us, but when we still didn't receive it I called them and OOH guess what? No HD to our house because they haven't properly wired our area! And no standard definition version of the channel!

So no animal channel for me...

Bleh, I hate most of AP now.

The only show I like is Pit Bulls and Parolees and Saved.

I admit, I get hooked on Pit Boss, but just for the ridiculousness of it all. It seems entirely scripted to me, every episode, lol.

Whatever happened to Underdog to Wonderdog? I liked that too but it hasn't been on in forever... so maybe it's never coming back. Bummer.

It's all about humans now.

On a animal channel..... Um, if I wanted to watch people yapping I could watch one of the 9646399964 other channels! Duh!

I agree! I watch Pit Bull & Parolees, Pit Boss, and Animal Cops now.

Really miss Petfinder, Underdog to Wonderdog, Last Chance Highway, Emergency Vets, Pet Star, Breed All ABout It, etc.

When it was actually about animals. Not parasites and humans.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I could not believe this show I watched! I don't know why I kept watching- I do know I wanted to see more animals. It would go back to her talking to one of her birds, and then she'd be in the car on the way to a casino talking about prison and how amazing her brothel was and how rich it made her.
It seems it's all about humans or full of shows trying to imitate The Crocodile Hunter. Oh, and parasites of course, as feedogs said.
During my childhood Breed All About It was my favorite show. I also loved Emergency Vets, and Animal Cops (which is still on now at least). I really can't even list all the Animal Planet shows I came to love and have been replaced with all this junk.

ETA: I was just doing some searching and I came across an Animal Planet thread very similar to this one. Sorry about that.
