I am breaking out so bad right now. I was clearing up but then all of a sudden a couple days ago I broke out terribly.

What face cleaners do you guys use? I have really naturally oily skin.

The only thing that works for me is just simple Noxema cream. Anything more harsh and all the expensive things just don't help at all or make things worse

I alternate between Clearasil and Cetaphil. I know, they aren't really the greatest products on the planet, but for the most part they work just fine for me. I like the Cetaphil because it's relatively mild for those with sensitive skin.

That being said, I am going through another horrible outbreak right now, too. I feel for ya.

I've tried Clearasil and I've tried proactive, neither of which worked. Although the proactiv was a long time ago before I was on BC. My acne has cleared up since then a bit so my dr told me to try it again. I use the neutrogena just plain old fash wash and I think it helps some, but I still break out a lot.

It's just SO annoying, especially because I have such light skin. It's always very noticible and red. ugh.

I'm fair-skinned, too. I always feel like I'm wearing a big, blinking red light on my face whenever I break out.

The Cetaphil is fairly inexpensive. Like I said, it's not the fanciest in the world but for the price it might be worth a shot if nothing else works. I found out about it when I was reading through wedding forums before my I got married, and a lot of the girls there were recommending it.

Laur, is it related to any meds you are taking? Some meds do NOT agree with skin, even have it listed as one of the side effects in many cases :(

That said, my son finally settled on neutrogena for men (not helpful for YOU as a woman but there are girl versions) and it has done a fine job. He uses it twice a day, hasn't dried him out either :)

When I was younger, the ONLY thing that would help my skin was going to a dermatologist and getting a script for Retin-A.
That OR sun (don't ever mix the two).
Anytime I could get my face out in the sun, BAM! it would clear my skin.

See, what all these cleanser companies want people to think is that acne is just some surface, skin disorder.
It's NOT.
Sure, bacteria causes acne, but something underlying causes your skin to react to the bacteria.

Once I got older, I was able to use mary kay. They have this acne gel that I SWEAR by.
It's some simple ingredient found in other acne treatments, but this stuff worked on me.
I had HORRIBLE skin until I was into my mid-late 20's.
Now I have mild scarring.
THANKS MOM.

It is actually a combo of proactive and BC for me too... without BOTH I will break out.

Also when I changed pills it got really bad again. Now I am back on Yaz and it is good again.

I don't really get acne anymore, it's cleared up a lot since I was about 23...but what works for me is those natural soaps. Anything else dries my skin out, but getting like the lemon soaps that are chemical free does it well, but it's fairly expensive. I have really sensitive skin and it peels if I use cheap soap, but I'm not fair skinned at all. I'll find out what brand I use, it smells really ncie too.

Cetaphil has alcohol in it, if you have oily skin that is not a good idea. It will dry your skin out causing your skin to produce more oil which means more acne.

Right now I'm using the Nutrogena face wash, the one that says #1 recommended by dermatologists. I'm using it along with my brand new Clarisonic. So far I haven't broken out the way I used to but I have one spot on my face where I have a lot of those little under the skin white bumps (there's a term for them but I can't remember) which end up turning into BIG white bumps, and I was hoping the Clarisonic might help me get rid of those... so far no go. =<
I spent the $$$ on the Clarisonic because my other option was to spend $$$ going to the doctor and get tested to see if I'm allergic, because just about every face wash I have ever used made me break out... but the Clarisonic has a money back guarantee and testing and doctor's appointments do not. =P

Have you tried the Clearasil 3 in 1 cleanser? Everytime I have pimples I always apply it and wash it off ten seconds later. I do that twice a day for three days or so and usually they are all gone.

I second Mary Kay recommendations - their lotion is the only stuff I've ever used on my face that doesn't cause me to break out. I also use a plain soap - goats milk and olive oil, I think. That helps.

What really helps is putting raw honey on the zits, though. It sounds crazy, but it works. . .

i like clean and clear along with a very mild goats milk soap...no scnets no fancy stuff just pain goats milk soap.
i use goats milk soap in the morning, clean and clear wash and a very mild lotion before bed. every other day i use the astringent part way through the day...
i found using it twice a day dried out my skin too much, ive got oily t-zone but otherwise very dry sensitive skin), but once a day on the wash and alternate days on the astringent worked perfect for me.

Ingredients in Cetaphil cleanser: Water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben.

Cetyl alcohol is not like isopropyl alcohol. Anything chemical with that OH group hanging off of it is called an alcohol. Cetyl alcohol is not drying at all, just the opposite, it is an emollient that used to be derived from whale oil before they figured out they could synthesize it.

Cetaphil is not drying at all, and is considered good for all skin types. I like Noxema though. I am told the menthol in it is an irritant, but it makes my skin feel good, and after I started using it as a cleanser insteqad of an actual acne cleanser, my acne cleared right up.
