RUN AWAY! Those are not top quality Shibas either. They don't look right to me.
Sounds to me like you have already made up your mind though.

I didn't like the site., The Xbreeds would be a big red light for me, plus no reputable breeder will take deposits and let you pick your puppy. A good breeder will match puppies very carefully to potential homes. Honestly, IU wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. She's breeding oodles, she contributing to the DD epidemic.

Red flags for me -

This breeder states that she is inspected by AKC.

From the AKC website regarding inspections:

*AKC inspects breeders who register seven or more litters per year.
(Yikes, that's A LOT of puppies!)

*AKC also randomly selects some breeders who register between four and six litters a year for inspection.

*In addition, AKC inspects breeders based on written, signed and substantiated complaints.

The last one concerns me most. Is she being inspected because of the enormous amounts of puppies she's producing, or because there have been complaints.

I'm not sure how the investigation reports work, but I would contact AKC and see if, as a potential customer, you are privy to find out what those reports state.

As far as health testing, a vet saying the dog is healthy means that to his knowledge, the dog is in good shape. This can be as simple as running the hands over the dog and saying "Yep, she's healthy".

This gives you NO proof that below the surface, genetic diseases aren't lurking.

Health testing is expensive, and breeders like this won't do it because it cuts into their profits.

Just the fact that this person is purposely breeding designer dogs is enough to make me yack.

I will tell you, I am one of those people who fell for a "Good sales pitch". My breeder knew all the right things to say, and now I am madly in love with a dog who has so many problems, she'll likely not live to see her 4th or 5th birthday. You don't want to be in those shoes. My dane is not even 3, and we've had to spend THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of dollars to keep her alive with us. She's on 7 different medications, she has days so bad she can't get up, she has anxiety so severe that it is detrimental to health. I love her with all my heart, but no dog should be created to live this kind of life.

Please, make your decision wisely.

Try contacting any of the breeders on there that are close - they should know of some breeders in your area that you can talk to.

Without health clearances on the parents it's a HUGE risk, walking into a vet clinic after you get your pup won't do much. The simple fact that she has so many breeds, owns the sires of the litters, doesn't seem to have any show brags (how hard is it to say you 'have' show prospects in the litter?).... yikes.

If, at worst you loose your deposit and your plane fees, and have days off to sit around, it's still not worth the heartache of having a pup with major health problems. And with that many dogs/puppies, chances are they're not spending the time socializing the babies either.

They sell their dogs on puppyfind.com. They sell at actions. Yuck. With what everyone here said... do not buy a dog from there. If you do, all you do is support a BYB. Thanks for being part of the problem, have a good day!

Those Shibas look terrible; weak backs, bad ear set...here are some picture of what a Shiba should look like. I wish this member was still posting, they are a veritable wealth of Shiba information and have one of the top dogs in the country.

I know you already put down a deposit and made plans, and I can't change what you're going to do, but if I were you I would run, not walk, away from this breeder. There are many, many red flags sticking out like a sore thumb. I would not ever buy from this breeder, no matter how much it inconvenienced me to back out.

Just in case anyone is interested,I was bored at work today so I emailed the breeder pretending to be interested just to hear what she had to say...

This is what she replied about health certifying her dogs, or not in this case...
I have had my dogs quite some time and alot of my adults are grandchildren and great grandchildren of my own dogs as well... If I know the history and pedigree of a certain dog I sometimes will only have the basic health testing done, if there is a questions or concern that my vet finds then I would do further testing.
My guarantee is for any health problems, not just those that I can test for etc etc...

This is what she said about the AKC inspections:
AKC basically chooses who they want to inspect and when they want to inspect, they do not make appointments but just show up at a breeders door... Any one who raises dogs will sooner or later be inspected by AKC, especially if they show and raise dogs. Being inspected is not a bad thing -- it's good :) It's nice to know that they approve of everything they see and the inspectors are very knowledgable too. Most inspectors, to my knowledge, are retired show breeders themselves...
The tips and informtion they bring are always appreciated and very helpful. http://www.akc.org/about/depts/investigations.cfm/

About pups sold at auction:
yes, I placed a dog by way of an auction. In some states dog auctions are a big thing and when they started this new auction facility I didn't know exactly how the auction thing worked and what actually went on at an auction as we don't have auctions in this area... I thought it would be a big benefit for the public to adopt affordable pets and it turned out to be a whole different story... The humane associate destroys 85% or more of the animals that are surrenderd to it, they don't blink an eye just put them down... I thought that the advertising and public knowledge of an auction was a good thing and that people would be there to get a pet but as you know the purchasers are all humane associations who take the dogs and then re-adopt them out to others for a profit... Long story but I tried to make it short..
