Also where they get the parrots??

Since I live in a tropical country I know from the newspapers and headlines on TV what they do to get this animals.

People cut trees for taking the baby birds and before the trip to take them out from the country illegaly they get them drunk and a cotton ball is put inside the beak so they are not goin to talk or move to mush, then they are hidden in clothes inside of a luggage.

The people that catch the bird gets like $4 dolars for a small parrot and $50 for the greatest (like the red parrots ) and the pet shop or the final person that sell it sell them from $1000

Sorry, but I don't like seen parrots beein sold.

The parrots are probably captive bred. The birds she is selling are easily bred in captivity and it's much easier to sell hand tamed birds than wild caught.

But she says nothing about how they care for them, what food they feed, how they interact with them...really they say nothing and that bothers me with the birds.

I use to have quaker parrots, I purchased them from a great parrot breeder who bred multiple species of bird. They were happy little critters.

I'd really stay away. It's not right that she's breeding so many different breeds, that's the number one thing that bothers me. On top of that she bred a random mixed litter and is asking over 600 for them. She screams BYB to me and I'd stay the heck away!

There are plenty of reputable breeders out there, and I strongly feel this isn't one of them. If you want a good quality puppy, go to a dog show and speak to the people there about breeders and they will recommend some good ones.

So if I do get a puppy from her, what do I do about testing for hereditary problems, and illness and all that? I know my shot/worming puppy visits are going to cost me 200.
Is there something my VET can do to check if I got a quality puppy, or just wait it out for 6 or so years? =/

It's just that I've already paid a small deposit, already made plans to take days off work, already planned a trip on a plane... and have been speaking with her ALL MONTH.

And I trusted her, and it sucks to have to search again after all that and try to put my trust in someone else ONLINE!

Talk to the breed club. $50 isnt alot to loose. and your plane ticket should be refundable. Just because you spent a little bit of money doesnt meen you should get a dog from a bad breeder.

I was going to take some pictures of the adults with black masks for you too...

Yeah I asked her why her puppies had black masks cause I rarely see adult Shibas with the black muzzle :S

But I'm getting a Shiba, I think they have less health issues.
Have you researched this breed? Did you know that Shiba's are known to be difficult and can have some aggression issues??

I agree with the others, no where does it list that they test for anything, which really is unacceptable for a rep. breeder. Another warning sign is the fact that they feed Pedigree.............you also HAVE to feed their Vit supplement or the guarantee is void. A one year guarantee is only protecting them not you and certainly not the pup. In the guarantee is also states that you ONLY get a refund IF another pup is available...........
Their show quality pups is a joke, that just means by their defination that the dog is AKC registerable at the time of purchase.........which is Bull****
I have bred and shown dogs. Anytime I purchased a pup from a rep. breeder as a prospective show/breeding dog, the guarantee was if that pup DIDN'T mature into a breeding/show dog that I got my money back or I got another pup.
Good grief I just looked at the stud dog, nothing, nada, zip...just some cutsey pics and certainly nothing about any test clearances or Titles.
I would strongly suggest you avoid this so called breeder........the fact that they sell mixes was enough to put me off but I looked anyways just in case.
And from a glance he does not appear to have excellent conformation.......

Here is the link to the National breed club, you should be able to find a good breeder here.
http://www.shibas.org/

And it doesn't appear that this breeder is listed with them, although I am not surpised.

It is the breeders responsiblity to provide you with proof that the parents, grand parents etc have been tested and are clear of any genetic issues. Some of the test can be done once but some are done every year or twice a year before breeding like a CERF (eye) exam.

There is a list of genetic/inherditary conditions etc on the breed club website.
This breeder shows nothing of having tested for any of it. It is very common for breeders to confirm on their websites that their dogs have been tested, for what and then list the results.

In my opinion this is not a good breeder and I would run away.

YOU shouldn't be doing the testing for hereditary problems. The BREEDER should be testing ALL of her dogs before they are bred. What will you do when you pay for the puppy and he has a list of health problems that will cost you thousands to fix? A $50 dollar deposit is not worth the thousands of dollars you may have to pay because this breeder isn't breeding resposibly. Run. Run away. It doesn't matter if she emails you six times a day and has a list of answers for every question you ask. It only will take her one minute to completely ignore you when you call her asking why she didn't take notice that she is breeding unhealthy dogs when you are stuck with a puppy that has a list of health problems.

I, seriously, just got screwed over by a breeder that didn't even have all of these red flags like this breeder does. It is heart breaking to be screwed over, and I can't tell you how heart breaking it was having to send the puppy back. It is not worth the heart break, or the frusteration. I'm sure there are plenty of people here willing to help you in finding the right breeder, I really hope you listen to all these warnings because you could end up heart broken, ripped off, and in the dark- and it SUCKS.
