Who do you think is the winner? I know there are "many" excellent guard dog breeds out there.. but just out of curiosity :)

only one of the listed breeds is used extensively by professionals and the other breeds of choice for professional protection needs aren't even listed.

Pit Bulls are extremely human friendly so using them as a gaurd dog would be like having a toddler do your algebra :rofl1:
Oh man! Robert's good friend from high school has three pits. One time he went to drop off some electronics and his friend wasn't home, so he climbed in the window to put the stuff inside where it wouldn't get stolen. He wasn't worried because the dogs knew him.

Well...the dogs didn't even freakin' notice someone was climbing in the window! :rofl1: Robert said all three dogs were passed out on the couch as he climbed in and out, making a lot of noise as he went.

About a month later his friend's house got broken into for reals. They stole everything. Even his Icecats season tickets. He said when he got home his three pitbulls were just happy and wiggly all over the place, they totally let the house get robbed.

So yeah, pits shouldn't even be on that list. :)

Forget guard dogs.

can you imagine having a giant guard SPIDER?!

I dont care who you are, if you are robbing a house, a dog might scare you a little.. but a GIANT SPIDER?! Your butt is running and screaming like a little girl!

only problem with my ingenious plan is that I would never be able to go into my own house.. because spiders scare the shiz outta me.

Emus would be pretty effective also.. they have teeth and are huge frikin birds

in the end, I believe its not about guard dogs. guard dogs are sooooo last season, its about surprising and scaring the SHIZ outta people trying to rob your house. I dont want them to just run.. I want them to be traumatized and need therapy lol

It really depends on what the dog is guarding, what kind of training the dog will have, and what lifestyle the dog will have when they're not being a guard dog. With more information people on Chaz (breed experts, owners, and trainers) could better point someone to a breed.

Aside from a pit bull, all of those breeds have the potential to be a decent criminal deterrent and protective of a family, but there are a lot of other breeds better suited to guard dog work.

I have guard cat. He sits at the window by the door when we're gone, and the minute someone else comes up to it he starts yowling and scratching at the window like a maniac. Now THAT's scary, cat scratches are the worst, especially when they look like they're gonna go at ya for all it's worth, lol. I know nothing about guard dogs though.

Goats. Amazing how effective a good billy goat can be. Donkeys too.

Interesting that someone who is signature shilling a dog training book exhibits such spectacular ignorance about dogs . . .

YOU AND ME BOTH! I've nearly crashed the car when one popped out of my dash, climbed through a window because a BIG ONE was in my path to the door, and sat frozen in the bath tub screaming for Kevin to come and get one! (if I moved, the 'waves' brought it closer )

If guard spiders are utilized, I know I'll NEVER EVER EVER turn to a life of crime! :lol-sign:

Wait, what? You mean you have to KNOW something about dogs these days to make money in the field? Somebody needs to get on the horn and notify a few "celebrity" trainers of this development!
