Laur- I don't care if people have lots of dogs. (as long as they have a plan if animal control, or who ever, comes in and says you must downsize)

I do get a bit suspicious though when someone contradicts their own statements.

I don't agree with this statement.

Is a clean, nice smelling house important to me? YES.......it's not just about appearance, it also has to do with a healthy environment. I am not a clean freak, not by a long shot, but I refuse to live in a dirty or smelly environment.

In my case, that means I can only keep up with the work of TWO dogs. If I WERE a clean freak, I might be able to keep up with the work of more, OR, I would make the dogs live outdoors. Them living outdoors, especially in the cold winters we have is unacceptable to me, so I limit myself to two.

Would I like to have more? Save more? You betcha..........I see dogs on craig's, petfinder, bulletin boards, HERE at chaz, EVERYWHERE that could use my help and sometimes it breaks my heart that I just can't. But I have to be RESPONSIBLE.......responsible to my children and husband, responsible to the pets I already have, and responsible to MYSELF in what I can handle and still maintain the quality of life for all involved.
Ive gotta agree here.

Just because I dont want to live in a home with dog/cat hair everywhere that smells like a petting zoo, it doesnt make my pets are ANY less important to me. In fact, I think they also appreciate a clean environment to live in.

I would love to adopt every dog that I see that needs a home, but..no. I know my personal limit and I stick to it.

I love having a dog, he is truly the sunshine in my life. but..I like having a LIFE outside of my pets lol and to have a small hoard of animals would mean devoting ALL my free time to giving them each the attention they deserve. well, having a social life is too important to me, im not going to spend my life shelled up in a house and end up as that "crazy pet lady" lol

She wasn't calling ANYONE 'that crazy pet lady' she was saying SHE didn't want to end up being called that...........

I've often said my friends ask me dog questions because I'm 'the crazy dog lady' and I only have TWO.......I have since been informed (by renee) that I must have at LEAST 3 to be the crazy dog lady, LOL

Well thats a little rude:(
Im certainly not calling anybody a "crazy pet lady" lol . Im saying I do not want to become one...

the "crazy pet lady " is a joking term. its a term made up by movies and televsion to describe that cooky neighbor down the street that has 50 cats. I would never call an actual person that, nor do I think it actually describes anyone.

the word you use everyday is a racial slur. I saw your post and I was not going to reply, not worth the energy, but HEY since you think im BEING RUDE. lets get into it.

I think using a term used to degrade an entire race every single day with your friends is much more RUDE, than saying that I do not want to be a crazy pet lady.

THe word you are using, regardless of content or intent, was a word used to degrade, insult and dehumanize an ENTIRE RACE OF PEOPLE.

I dont care how you are using it or why you are using it or who is saying it. THERE IS NO REASON YOU NEED TO USE THAT WORD. I dont care how many times its mentioned on your ipod, thats no excuse. I hear the word everyday, and although I would NEVER buy a song that used that word, I do hear them.
that certainly doesnt mean that I need to use the word everyday just because I hear it ever so often. I am not a parrot. I can control what comes out of my mouth.

I know how easy it is to use terms like that, they are popular and because of that it seems OK to use them... and I'm not just talking about THAT racial slur, it doesnt even have to be about race
"thats so gay"
"your a retard"
etc.. etc.. its all the same deal. people that use these words most of the time dont MEAN to insult or offend..but they do.

I have nothing against you BM and I GET IT..these terms are tossed around so much that its easy to just USE THEM. but please do not start pointing fingers unless your hand are clean.

Finally went through this thread ~~~ at one point I had four Goldens , a foster , 2 cats , 3 horses , a gecko , 2 rescued raccoons , a hamster and a rescued bunny . When you and your kids love animals , you cope . Yes, I think this post is spam . None of are or were hoarders . We love our animals and do the best for them ! Ollie would love a friend __ something I can't afford now .

OK ~ I am older and not crazy but I do admit my life is based around my dog's comfort . Ollie is perfectly comfortable being kenneled if I go out . Hunter and Maggie are here and hate to see him kenneled . I think they bark the whole time I'm gone .( not Ollie ) . I want to go to a Special Olympics Saturday which would mean an 8:30 am departure and be gone until late afternoon . First of all I'm not a morning person , so right now I'm thinking of attending the afternoon sessions / either way , I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't ! Help me !!!

I'm a crazy dog lady, too. Home with my dogs a lot as well. :D
I take no offense to what Fran said, though. I think she was just saying she doesn't want to be that way.

Fran, don't you admit you might be just a weeny bit dog crazy? :D

(This is Jessie)...

I don't think what Fran said was offensive at all... I completely agree... I don't EVER want to be the "crazy pet lady..." I always think of a woman living in a home with cats crawling all over the counters, table, etc, with overflowing nasty cat boxes. Then a ton of smelly dogs every where. lol.

I'm 'crazy' about dogs, yes, but not "dog crazy". I still travel, have friends over, go out places, live a normal life, lol. Our house is always VERY clean and organized, I am kind of a clean/organizational freak and don't EVER want to be the house where it's obvious it's run by the pets.

I think you can be a crazy dog person with one dog and have no life (life revolves around dog, think of those people that spend a gazillion $$ on their dogs, do everything with their dogs, lets dog eats off their plates, dog has a better life than most people).

I have four dogs and I have a life. I'm always assumed I'm a dog walker or something, and lots of people think its too much to handle, since they can't even handle owning one dog. But I can't image handling say 7 cats (litterboxes :yikes:), but others do just fine. IDK I'm not a 'cat person' and some people aren't 'dog people' so yeah it seems crazy to have four dogs to some and I understand. Even if they have a dog, they think thats too much to handle, I don't know how you can handle four! It depends on the person. My dogs get more attention and money spent on them than most people with one dog.

To me I rather be the 'crazy pet house' than the 'house with a pet'....I've seen some of those types, owners are always at clubs, parties, out with their friends, and they have a dog or whatever ....that is just there. Gets fed and whatever, but isn't really part of the family. So people just have a dog just to have one, and well that sucks.

My dogs are my life, but they aren't my whole life. Everything I do isn't dog related, but I do try to have activities with them throughout the week. But thing is what I view as crazy I don't think it matters on how many pets you have but how much dedication you have towards them. Like even if you have one dog or 10, if you can't hold down a relationship, hanging out with friends, ect than yeah your a crazy dog person. Just like if you're obsessed with cars or video games, if it consumes your whole life, you're pretty much 'crazy (insert whatever) here'.

Like being a mom, if all you do is be a mom, well than your life is pretty much meh. Like you had a life before being a mom, doesn't stop because you have a kid. Not saying clubbing every night and whatever, but every now and then you go out and have fun.

Doesn't matter how many kids, dogs, whatever, as long as they're taken care of and LOVED. Their life, you don't have to deal with it, they do, who cares? Which kinda makes me feel like a hypocrite over the whole Duggars-have-to-many-kids-debate, because they are such good parents, but I just use to be so critical over the whole thing, but now its like whatever, they're much better taken cared for and much better parents than some people with just one or two kids.

Its about quality of life of pets kept in small zoos
And the point I am making, is people are assuming this: If you have This amount of pets, then its a FACT that they are not cared for properly. And that is not true, that is someone's OPINION, NOT FACT, like you are trying to say it is.

I could care less about pet laws, trying to list them doesn't really make any difference to me. I disagree with them. AND if I moved to the country they wouldn't be in effect anyway, so they make no difference to animal care either. We would never let them get taken away, because we would just move to where it was legal.

You have two ferrets... in California.
Yeah, and? There are hundreds if not thousands of ferrets owned in California. And they are close to being legalized.

Honestly I've been trying to sit out of this and I usually do, but I have to say I think the way people are singling out punky is ridiculous. Its gone beyond disagreeing to hounding her about every little thing. I know that won't make me popular but that's how I feel.

Would I ever want that many dogs? Heck no! But they're not my dogs. A lot of people here and other places do things with their dogs I don't agree with. And what about breeders? Especially in working types of dogs there are breeders that have as many or more dogs than punky. Is this wrong too? I have seen some of these same people defending breeders who have this many dogs and kennel them or have their dogs live in dog yards on chains. Ridiculous.

So she doesn't keep her dogs the same way you would. Okay, whatever. I have seen no indication that they're abused in any of her pictures.

My family is also over the city limit for dogs. Oops, I guess? No one cares here either as long as they're not nuisances. I don't see what that matters to random internet people.

Once again, unpopular probably but dang this thread is ticking me off, lol!
Thank you for that Laurelin! My point exactly, why is everyone bothering me? I take care of my pets. Just because I have over the legal limit, and more than most people have doesn't mean I don't properly take care of them. I feel everyone is going out of their way to try to be mean and rude to me. (And nobody has done that since I joined this forum til recently.).

All your excuses are "I couldn't imagine living with that many animals, so it must be wrong". These are MY pets, NOT yours, so stop using your life as an example.

when no one is attacking you over how many animals you have
Umm lets go back to where you attacked me over how many animals I have, Where YOU started the drama of my numbers with a rude comment, which brought on your friends to come in and nit pick and attack me. Funny, I somehow started this by posting pictures? No..I'm not the one to blame for this whole debate on MY LIFE. I am simply defending it now.

I never said I was the most awesome pet owner in history. I love and take good care of my pets, and they are happy and healthy. Really, that is all that matters. So why not drop the subject entirely and focus on something that is actually important on a dog forum.

Is a clean, nice smelling house important to me? YES.......it's not just about appearance, it also has to do with a healthy environment. I am not a clean freak, not by a long shot, but I refuse to live in a dirty or smelly environment.
My environment is very clean and healthy. It might not be spotless, but I dont care if there is cat hair on the couch. I don't care if it smells like cat litter (NOT a dirty cat box, but cat litter itself has an odor most people don't like). Its healthy for my pets, and the people that live here. It wouldn't be inviting to people who dislike animals and their hair, but I don't really care for those kind of people to invite them over to my house.

I am the crazy pet girl, but I am not shelled up inside (And no I am NOT saying you were referring to me). I have friends, and socially interact..though alot of the time its at the dog park. All my friends (Except one or two) are pet people.

Where I am at they are relaxed as well, but I do have a neighbor with about 7 dogs or so (I can never get a decent count)
I wonder if this is what my neighbors think of us :rofl1: With the fosters, and transports (sometimes I overnight, or sometimes there's a couple hour "layover") it would be impossible to keep count ;)
I wonder the same thing about our neighbors across the street. They have some kind of terriers - Jacks, maybe. I *think* they have 4, but I'm not sure. The let them out in pairs, and they look very much alike. The only way I know they have more than two is 1- I'm a "dog person" and I notice little differences (hehe) 2-three of them got out one time and it sounded like at least one was very jealous in the house  and 3- they BARK. A LOT. and it sounds like several choruses.

nvr mind, Im not wasting my energy

Yeah, and? There are hundreds if not thousands of ferrets owned in California. And they are close to being legalized.
You know I like you right?....But the whole illegal thing does bother me. I don't think its fair, just like I don't think its fair that pits are outlawed in Dade, but I think the risk is not worth it. Move to Broward or whatever if you want a pit bull, but as much as I down right disagree with the law in Dade, I don't think it should be ignored. I mean yeah its easier to hide a ferret than a pit bull, but I don't think its right to put your animal at risk like that.

There are some cruel people in this world and I've seen people find information online and have snitched on people on dog forums because they didn't like the person. No matter how much a good pet owner you are, people would find a way still to ruin you not based on because they really care that you're doing something thats harmless, and not because you're neglecting your animals, just based on 'I don't like you' and because they think you're a crappy pet owner. Does not at all mean that you are, but not everyone is gonna agree the way you raise your pets, whether it is pet food, limit, spaying/neutering, ect, someone is always going to think you're not a good pet owner based on their beliefs. All I can say is be careful.

People smoke weed, we all know people who smoke weed, but its still illegal. Everyone knows people do it illegally, am I going to snitch? No I don't think its worth reporting, its not harming anyone, its not something like watching someone kidnap someone...but doesn't mean other people won't.

Pet limits are different, because well if it becomes an issue (which majority of the time if the dogs are not bothersome, it never does become an issue unless you have bad neighbors), you can move, but having your pet taken away because its illegal is a different.

Unless you are out flaunting your ferrets around (like Paris Hilton did for example), or you are telling strangers about your ferrets, there really is no way for someone to know. I had gerbils before too (They are also illegal, just like many kind of reptiles, sugar gliders, pet skunks, etc.). I dislike California for this reason (And the evil summer heat in my city), hopefully my mom is serious about moving back to Washington.
