I do think there is a lot of insanity surrounding this election. Prop 8 is starting to get really heated around here and my friend actually witnessed a group of "yes" supporters (who were teenage Christians) assault... yes, assault a woman on a street corner. She was taking pictures of them on her camera phone and three girls surrounded her, pulled her hair, and attempted to take her phone.
My friend had to stay there and hold all the dogs (they were on a dog walk when they witnessed all this) while her friend gave statement to the police. She was standing there holding 4 dogs when the girls then came up to her. One girl was screaming and yelling and shouting that she was a dyke and should be dead. Her friends had to actually hold her back while she screamed, "I'm going to kill you," at my friend. They were screaming because my friend "looks weird" and "gay"... they have no idea Donyale is a firefighter who may one day save their life. They were acting simply on looks.
We're talking about 15 year old girls displaying this kind of behavior. It's frightening. This is what happens when fear takes over.
As for the skinheads? If you're dumb enough to think you're going to be able to go on a killing spree that will end with the president, well I'm surprised you can tie your own shoes.
Change can be scary, the unknown can be frightening, but if people never took a chance then America wouldn't exist. I bet there were a bunch on nay-sayers back in the day predicting sailing boats across the ocean would lead to falling over a cliff, but folks took a chance and look where we are. It's hard, but we need to embrace progress, not fear it irrationally.
