but the fact is ppl dont seem interested in the options..
putting a puppy or even a litter to sleep is not always the worst thing to do.
i know i´d rather be dead than being stuck in a cage all day.
also there are too many dogs who end up in bad homes.. it´s to easy and to cheap to get a dog and the result is that anyone with 20 bucks in their pocket can have a dog.

( i´m not telling anyone here to put their dog to sleep, i know there are a lot of dogs who have it alot worse )

Rocco,
Here in the US, at least in my neck of the woods, it is on the average $150.00 to get a dog from a shelter/rescue. It sounds like things are different in Sweeden, but we euthanize WAY too many dogs here.

True, in Canada at the shelters it is between $200-$300 to adopt and puppies from breeders are more. Even mutt pups are $750+, which is unbelievable. Way too many are PTS and if spending time in a crate offers a doggy a home I think it is well worth.

i didnt mean 20 $ exactly .. just that dogs are cheap.
150 $ is extremly cheap..
here you would have to pay atleast 300$ and purebred dogs next to never end up in shelters here.

PS. i think 300$ is cheap too

I think hightening the cost of dogs would just have more put to sleep. I personally wouldn't have been able to adopt Lucas or Chloe if the price was $300! Personally I don't think $300 is cheap, but I'm poor  lol

though even for some1 to pay 300$, unless your rich that stil is money to you down the toilet unless you are planning to keep it and be a good owner(i know in my family we bought our dog for 300$, and that was alot for us, not meaning we are bad owners we can afford the 50$ a month for food and occasional vet bill, but its still alot). I think someone wouldnt spend 300 on something then get rid of it, they obviously know they are gonna take care of it. There are also ppl who buy dogs for 200o, and they end up in a pound aswell. I dont think it is necessarily the monney, but the committment

i´m kinda torn when it comes to what´s a fair prize.. you want to discourage nonbreeders from mating their mixed or non registered dogs cuz those are the cheap dogs who often ends up in homes where they whernt planned for or with ppl who didnt realize that the costs of having a dog can add up pretty fast ( vet costs aso) so i wanna keep the cost down so it wont be such a lucrative business..
but by keeping the prizes low poor ppl who wont be able to afford vet costs can afford to purchase the dog.

Am i making any sence here ??? lol

again sorry bout the spelling and/or frasing.

i just said that i could,,,some people can afford the bills. I have told everyonne if was a hard situation i was in, i wasnt planning on buying him..He was born, I either bought him or he went up in a pound for 25$,(because of his circumstance)
some people can just pass paying vet bills and food, but that doesnt mean they cant hand over 2000 for a dog(which we were gonna do by the way, for a purbred)

i wanna make it clear that i´m not rich, i dont work ( but my bf does hihi :) )
i spend every cent on my dogs
200$ on food every month is way.. wayy more than i spend on MY food
endless vet bills, last time.. i had to come up with about 900 $ in 9 hours because the vets her dont release the dog untill the bill is payed. ( how does it work in the US? )
thank god for my mother*S*

so i´m not saying you have to be rich to have a dog i am however saying that when you do you better take care of it ..

It's a sad fact that most people have to be gone 8 or more hours a day to work but like I said, lots of people do it and have dogs that do just fine. Lea, if I am not mistaken, you do not work and live with your family (you are under 18?). Roccos....so it's nice to be you and have your boyfriend support you. Hope for your sake he sticks around or you may be changing your tune about leaving your dogs alone while you work. I don't know how expensive things are where you're at, but most of us working joes aren't doctors or lawyers raking in the big bucks. Most of us are scraping by to pay mortgages, utilities and luxeries like that. Pet Sitters don't come cheap. Only the "well off" can afford them, from what I have seen. So where does that leave the rest of us? It's great if you have a neighbor or friend or whatever that will come in and let your doggie out during the day for FREE...but it's an inconvenience to them to ask and you can't always rely on them doing it....because it's a FAVOR. I think a reality check is needed.

Good call, Jessie. Not to mention how few people you can really trust to come into your home OR, more importantly, take safe care of your dogs! As far as finding someone who is "fairly cheap," well, you get what you pay for. Coming home and finding my dogs loose, lost, stolen or mistreated isn't my idea of a bargain.

Come to think of it, I'd highly doubt a pet sitter COULD come in and check on mine . . . Can you IMAGINE? :p

You all know why a pet sitter will never set foot in my house again, no kennels either and no friends or family members ever. If my dogs cannot go with me and I will be away for any length of time then I will not go. I do not crate Yukon anymore because he is clean, non destructive. Storm is another thought he is crated if we leave because he is not trained yet and he appears to show all the signs of seperation anxiety. We have not left him alone yet!

Yup. If we go somewhere overnight, they either come with us or two will stay at my parents' and one comes with us (I wouldn't expect my parents to deal with both of the grrrrls together). They get spoiled rotten there and I don't have to worry, but that's the only way they get left. Personally, I'd much rather stay at home with the dogs . . . in reality I don't even trust Charley fully to take care of them like I do ;)

geez it´s not like i go up to ppl on the street asking them to watch my dogs..

i´m very selective and normaly it´s my mom ( if it´s a weekend ) or my sister,
and also my bf works nights so he´s at home during the day.

i am pretty lucky (to be able to stay home) and so are my dogs.

but i kinda thought American women where all "stay at home moms"
so how can you afford to stay home with the kids but not with a pup ?

Here we have 13 months maternety leave .. maybe you do to ?
that would be a good time for a puppy then..
