I really like the Bravo! training bites too but they're expensive.

I still feed Jackson soft milkbones on occasion, so I'm not terribly worried, but it still kind of sucks to lose another 'good company' by selling out.
Oh yeah, those Bravo treats are really good. But expensive!

Heck, I've used Pup-Peroni and Canine Carry Outs in agility training numerous times. Total "junk food," but my guys really like them and will work well for them. I'm not ashamed :p

I actually use hotdogs and cheese a lot.
this.
It gets to the point with treats (recalls and prices and changes etc..) that it's cheaper/easier to buy human stuffs at whole foods than the dog treat equivalent lol

we use..
- cheerios
- hot dogs
- cheese

I frequently use these..

My dogs just...are really into them. And they are cheap, when you are going through a ton. And the ingredients aren't TERRIBLE.

I'll do Cloudstars..Orijen freeze dried treats (they break up too much I think). I like the Wellness or Blue Buffalo 'bites'...they are like squares that break up nicely. Dogs/cats love these..

I use my mouth as a treat pouch a lot.... Cheerios, hot dogs, and cheese bc there is NO WAY I'm sticking that other stuff in my mouth... even "natural treats"... Gag me.

But, I am sad bc they were decent treats and it always stinks when this happens.

.
you use your mouth as a treat pouch? Like how many treats do you hold in there and then you just spit them out?
Even with cheese or hotdog etc.. holding food in my mouth makes me gag, I've never heard of this

I've done the "mouth as treat pouch" thing, it's kind of gross but it gets them to focus on your face.

For treats I'll use human-grade meat or cheese, or those dried duck tenders that Costco sells.

ETA I don't put the duck tenders in my mouth lol

Yeah, dogs will always pay attention to where their treats are coming from, so except in certain venues I like that to be my face.

I just bite half a hot dog/cheese stick and bite little pieces off to reward. It was awkward at first, but you get used to it. LOL.

I use meatballs, cheese, chicken, etc a lot, but like to keep some treats around that are easy to just shove in my pocket. Not much is as gross as finding liquified meatballs in a baggy in a coat pocket!

I just found green moldy turkey in one of my pockets. Blegh.

We try to switch things up. Jackpots for Mia are salami or pepperoni, neither of which are good for her. We've used pupperonis some but only when we treat swap with someone else. Those were Nikki's favorite treats.

I try to use a lot of plain meat like chicken, etc because we train so much and my dogs are so small. Today we were literally out from 9 am to almost 3 pm (though that last hour was all of us noseworkers grabbing lunch) so the stuff they get in training is ALL of their food for Saturdays. So I don't want it all to be totally junky.

The buddy biscuits are my favorite premade dog treats. We also use ziwipeak a lot for the aforementioned reason- high value and also a balanced meal. I wouldn't worry nearly as much if 1) we didn't train as much or 2) my dogs were larger and would get kibble on top of their training food.

I picked up some of the buddy biscuit tricky trainers from the store today. They were on sale and for the value and quantity (almost a pound!) it was worth it. But they are a little bigger than zuke's and I really prefer smaller treats.

I've definitely done the treats in the mouth thing with my own dogs with cheese or hotdog. I can't always use cheese, hotdog, etc though because 1) I'm outside training in the summer for up to 6 hours, it would go bad. It's also expensive because I only buy organic hot dogs/cheese and I don't do that for students anyway. Plus treats run out during class sometimes and I have to buy something on the fly.

With the way Patton is going through treats (over 9oz of cat treats today!) I definitely need something easy and cheap, but of a decent quality at least. I'll use weird/off brands of treats if I don't have to buy them (goodie bags, etc) but won't actually support the companies myself. If that makes any sense? *shrugs*

Zuke's were the only treats I could find that Frag would tolerate for a while when he was younger and I had limited access to treats... So they hold a special spot in my heart, even if they were not the best that could be bought. :)

FYI, cloud star buddy biscuits are 50% off! on their website... code CSTREATS! I'm stocking up. Plus it's free shipping.

I just bought $38 worth of treats. lol. Hey normally they would've been $74. I'd say that's a steal especially because these are Jackson's FAV treats EVAR anyway (esp. the bacon & cheddar flavor).

I always feel so violent breaking the cute little gingerbread man up into billion pieces. lol. I will break off his arms first, then the legs, then the head. So each treat I get at least 5 rewards out of. lol.

That's upsetting! Lol I spent my last $20 (for the dogs) this paycheck today on the tricky trainers. :p I love the buddy biscuits but the crumbs from murdering them bug me sometimes. Probably for the best. Lol

I've been using the natural balance line lately-
Um, they're owned by Del Monte, which also owns Alley Cat, 9Lives, Kibbles n Bits, Milkbone, Pupperoni, Canine Carryouts, and Gravy Train. So, I don't really see how it's different than Zukes being owned by Nestle?

I don't care for the ingredients, but I use BilJac PB Naners as my high-value reward. I don't use many, but OMG Logan goes NUTS for them. Other than that I use kibble, bananas, meat, etc.

I don't like that Zukes are so dry, and when you break them apart there are all sorts of sharp bits in them.

Unfortunately, the difference is intent. That happened less than a year ago and I never heard about it so I had no idea. That's what this thread was for- knowledge. :)

It was all over Chaz/FAcebook/etc. I'm not sure what you mean by intent?

I never intended to buy from the organization. I did it without knowing, because when I had originally researched the company years ago, it was not owned by a major pet food manufacturer such as del monte. I wasn't on Chaz or friends with nearly as many dog people on Facebook a year ago, so I never heard about it. That upsets me just as much. I'm glad I used all of my NB products today and bought a new brand of treats.
