I guess I like all for different reasons. In the summer I primarily use his biothane collars from Fraggle Rock just because he's often in or near water or beaches etc. He rarely wears leather in the summer just because I don't want them ruined from chlorine in the pool.

In the fall and winter I would say he wears his leathers a lot more.

But with fabric I sometimes like the light weightedness of it, that you can find different patterns, and sometimes I like dealing with a plastic snap vs a buckle like on a leather.

So I like them all for different reasons. I think even if I didn't have a collar buying addiction, :rofl1: lol, I would likely still have one of each (1 biothane, 1 leather, 1 fabric) of these materials simply for usefulness.

BUT if I could only choose ONE... I think I may go with biothane simply because it's so easy to clean, doesn't get messy easily, looks like leather, can have a nameplate on it, etc....

Ugh. Such a battle.

For single coated, short haired dogs this is easy for me. Leather, no doubt for everyday wear. I prefer a nylon/ribbon martingale with a buckle for outings, though.

I still don't know for the double coats. I've got a few thin leather tag collars which overall I like. However, they make me nervous for playing and they have gotten caught going into kennels a few times so they rarely wear them now. Also, the slipping issue again. I like paracord on them as well, but similar issues and I don't like how paracord has a tendency to "stick" and doesn't slide easily. I've been throwing around the idea of fursavers, but I generally don't like full slips. I'm borrowing a CM minky from Danielle.. kind of hoping those don't break coat.

Depends on what I'm doing!

I think for just everyday sort of wear, my dogs have always had nylon collars, either martingale or just a really nice buckle collar that holds its size.

I LOVE my biothane collar for outings that involve water for Abrams.

I've honestly only ever had one dog with a leather collar, and she chewed on it. LOL

If I had to pick just one collar type, I'd probably go with biothane, then nylon, then leather.

So I don't walk with collars, I use harnesses for that.

I use collars for quick grab situations or tags.... and for that I like leather. My dogs are VERY hard on collars(salt water, fresh water, mud, poop, dead things, etc) but I haven't had any problems with the leather. A little saddle soap and conditioner and you would never know how gross it was before. LOL.

Well I really adore limited slip collars for every day use for the youngsters, which aren't really leather-friendly. So nylon, I guess.

I do love my leather collars. They're so beautiful and durable, but I really only use them on a regular or day to day basis for Pip.

Biothane for outdoorsy activities. Hugo is is definitely a jump-in-all-mud kind of guy and any other collar gets super gross. He has a nylon collar that he wears around sometimes that I like because it's a pretty blue color and reflective. He has a faux leather collar that I think looks super snazzy on him and he wears that around town/ to the pet store. I do want a fabric one for him but he doesn't have one yet.

I think if I had to choose just one it would be the faux leather one. I like the look of leather, but I try not to buy animal products (other than food and treats, obviously).

Leather all the way.

I've never owned a biothane collar, but I feel like if I did have one it would be a close second since we do a lot of hiking. And we tend to get really muddy when we go biking and it's raining out, so I would probably use biothane for that as well. But Fable is honestly the type of dog that isn't going to roll in anything stinky or get excessively muddy or wet, so that is why leather works out great for her.

I don't understand the people who say leather is a problem if you have a dirty dog. I come from the horse world... they are big and dirty (often) animals. I find leather stands up better than nylon.

Dekka rolls in dead things, nasty poop, gets muddy, swims in water - any water she can find including chlorined pools. She has had one leather collar for years that she wears 24/7. Its starting to wear where the buckle goes but it still looks great, is soft, and has taken minimal care to keep it that way.

Its one of the reasons I never looked into biothane (that and the fact I love the look of leather) is that I have never needed something that lasts longer than leather.

I do have cotton fabric collars I like for changing up their style, but I prefer smooth leather collars. I really prefer the "english bridle leather" type of leather, preferably soft inside (padded). Fiona doesn't wear any collar in the house now though, because I don't want collar marks in the confo ring. I've considered leather tag collars but still not sure.

The three older dogs wear collars like this one in the house... and I like it because it shouldn't be able to be twisted in a mouth or anything like that :).

Biothane.
Pretty as leather, but comes in cool colors, easy to nameplate...and most importantly, no stinkyness/easy to clean. It's his everyday and what I would choose if he could only have one collar.

He still has one fancy leather collar, but he wears biothane everyday.

The texture of biothane kind of skeeves me out. I've found my leather collar and leashes hold up very well to all sorts of mess just fine.

My issue is mostly Merlin's fondness of swimming, especially in salt water and disgusting water.
Leather is pretty easy with mess...but being submerged, it gets soft and the smell can be pretty gross LOL

Leather is porous, which is a part of why I do like it, it gets soft, it ages well....BUT it holds smell and I worry with how much he swims.
