i went through this surgury the first of November. Pudding, Mashed Potatoes, Scrambled eggs, and warm creamy soups will be your best friend for a while. Dont eat anything HOT or COLD, try for room temperature or a little warmer.

It'll be okay. Hopefully your not as much of a baby as I am.... I am such a wimp and they didnt give me very good pain meds.

Ew, Yum, Yum, and Ew. LOL Mashed potatoes are sooo yummy!! *drools* lol I am eating some ice cream right now since I'm not going to be able to after the surgery! And ice cream is my life line! LOL Or my addiction, whichever you prefer to call it ;) lol

Thanks for the advice! I'm usually not bad with pain at all. So hopefully it won't be too bad, but I'm still soo nervous!

What kind of sedation did you go with? Did you choose to be knocked out completely or no?

Oohh. ouch!
I feel nervous for you! lol. I will be taking mine out pretty soon too, and I don't know if I should actually get sedated for it, or just go with the standard anaesthetic to the gum. How are you doing it?

I'm not really sure. They didn't ask which I wanted when I made the appointment, so for now I'm assuming they will ask at the appointment or I don't get a choice.

Hopefully I'll be put out completely. I don't want to be feeling them cracking my teeth! I have this fear about my teeth breaking, so that's not something I actually want to listen/feel! LOL

If they don't ask me, then I'll probably ask if they could do it fully sedated.

I was sedated. I remember them putting in the IV (but they were distracting me while doing it, so it's not a major memory) and then the next thing I remember is waking up in my recliner at home.

That must've been one powerful dosage, lol. I had a consultation with an oral surgeon and I think what he told me implied that only specific practises have both choices available (usually just anaesthetic). I only assumed after the sedation you'd be woozy, but I guess you'd been knocked out for quite a time eh? lol.

So Babyblue, if you're really set on being sedated, it might be better to be safe and contact your dentist and see if sedation is available.

Eh, if they don't offer sedation, I'll be terrified, but oh well. I'll live (hopefully LOL). I just would prefer sedation. I guess I'll see when I get to the appointment! :/

I think most do offer sedation. Personally I want to go somewhere that I have a choice to stay awake. I just want some valium, pain pills, and the anesthetic in my gums. I have a fear of having anything stuck in my arm for a prolonged period of time of more than 2 seconds. And I am afraid to be put out, cuz my sister gets sick after she is put out, and well i would hate to be sick with just having my wisdom teeth out, actually not just that but i have a fear of being sick anyways. I am supposed to get mine out, but it is so expensive so i haven't done it yet.

Hey!

Aww man that sounds scary! ..That would freak me out!...I'm not helping...! But good for you for not putting it off any longer..that's not a good thing to do!
I hope that you can get some sedation...I would prefer that also I think.

Good luck! :)

Try not to worry yourself about it now. I really didn't have much of a problem when I had mine out and I had all 4 out at the same time. It was no where's near as bad as I had convinced myself it would be. And I was awake for the whole thing. Ask them for a little valium or xanax before you have the procedure done. And tell them you want percocet for pain afterward. You'll be fine if you follow the post procedure directions they give you.

I know how ya feel being all nervous and stuff. I am getting mine out in a few weeks. Thankfully only 3 of mine need to come out.

I am very nervous because I have had a molar extracted before. Not an experience I want to be put through again. You can hear cracking noises when the dentist twists the tooth around and pulls until it comes out. I want to be completely sedated for my wisdom teeth and they better give me some vicodin!!

Both my brothers JUST got them out last week. So mom had them take pineapple pills which is said to reduce swelling although there isn't any proof, just theories. Also some mouth wash the doctor prescribed. They went in on the day of the surgery at like 10 in the morning and they were completely knocked out for surgery.

So I just finished writing about how their surgery went and then decided I should give you the choice of whether or not you want to read it. It probably won't make you feel any better lol. So I copied it and pasted it onto word so if you want to read it then I'll post it. But FYI they are both fine and thought it was easier than they expected.

As far as rules...Soft or pureed food for a week. Not brushing your teeth the first day and when you do don't go near the incision. NO swishing liquids in your mouth, no drinking from a straw. Ice 20 mins on 20 off for two days. You swell the most day three (mainly because you stop the ice). You can take Tylenol and advil but no aspirin, they give you good pain meds anyway though. minor bleeding and oozing is not a big deal but if it's a lot or it persists then call the doctor. I can't really remember the rest but I'll look for the sheet, they give you one anyways. Supposedly they explain it to you too but you won't remember ;) Danny didn't even remember telling Matt he felt drunk.

I've had mine taken out, and it's really not all that bad. All 4 of mine were impacted too, so they were really tough to get out. It did hurt, but I lived obviously. :)

I had mine out quite a few years ago... I was knocked out.

After my surgery my mom showed up with this HUGE tupperware container full of mashed potatoes... and she brought pudding and soup and jello and all the stuff I was able to eat lol.

I can't really say it was that painful... I mean it sucked don't get me wrong.... and I had a lot of facial bruising but I wasn't in an immense amount of pain.

Just do what they tell you to help you heal afterward and you will be fine. :D
