Okay so I'm getting my mom and dad a Wii for Christmas (joint gift with my sister and BIL), AND I'm getting my sister and BIL a Wii for Christmas (joint gift with my parents . . . sneaky huh? LOL!). SO today I have to go out and purchase 2 Wiis and I know they come kind of bare bones, if you will. What else should I get? Like, if someone gave you a WII for Christmas what would you NEED to get in addition to what already comes in the starter pack? Keep in mind that I'm uber poor and until I get the money from everyone else who is going in on these gifts with me I won't be able to buy groceries or make my car payment so I'm crossing my fingers I can get the money between today and tomorrow (I wonder if the dogs will share their chicken backs with me LMAO!). So what is NECESSARY to purchase with the Wii so that they can all set it up and play it and have fun?

I found this link (because I couldn't remember what came with it, even though we've only had it a few months!)

Us.Wii.com -- The Global Wii Experience Website in English

We bought a second controller so that we could play together.

The Wii Sports that it comes with has bowling, tennis, baseball, and a couple other games.....that was plenty to get us started with. It's a lot of fun....just be sure to wear the wrist strap.... I almost sent my controller flying the first couple times we played! :D

I also recommend the Wii Fit for sometime in the future. I love it, and I'm thinking about getting the new Wii Fit Plus after Christmas!

I sell these at work. You can play it straight out of the box. It comes with one remote, one nunchuck and the wii sports game. Almost everyone that buys it without accessories is back within a week to buy at least another remote and nunchuck LOL! Most of the wii sports games are just more fun with two players. I always recommend an extra remote ($40)and nunchuck ($20) plus a charging station for the remotes ($20). If they'll be getting them at the same gathering, you could get away with not buying extras though. They could use the remote and nunchuck from one wii with the other to play 2 player things that night then buy their own accessories if they wanted them.

Nothing, really. The Wii comes with 1 remote, 1 nunchuck and Wii Sports. So technically, they would be fine. Since the wii's are for 2 people though, I would get them another remote each if you could, the game is more fun with somebody else anyways

As Jess said, you'll need another controller and nun chuck. Not much fun to play alone, and I think it sucks that they just include one of each..........just another nickel/dime method, LOL Otherwise, it's ready to play out of the box and comes with Wii sports (like 6-8 games on one disk.........bowling, tennis, things like that)

The controller is about $40.00 and a nun chuck is another $20.00. BLERGH!

Personally, I wouldn't use our new Wii at all without the Wii fit step. But that's another $100.00 so it might be something your respective gift receivers will purchase on their own, LOL

Yeah they can get their Wii Fits on their own . . . or they'll get them for birthdays. I found a package that has the Wii plus a second remote, a second nunchuck, and another sports game for $262. Looks like a good deal to me (though I'm still nauseous at the price LOL).

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

If you get second controllers I would highly recommend buying used. I bought my entire system used....two years ago I think and it has worked fine. It'll be alot cheaper to buy the remote and nunchuk that way so if you're on a budget it's something to think about.

id agree with eveyrone else, the only thing that id realy say is a "must add" is a second wii-mote and nunchuck so you can play the games together/against eachother.

oh and some GOOD AA batteries. lol

also for the remotes and such , I have bought the tennis racket and golf club and guitar off brand from the dollar general for 10 to 15 dollars a piece.
the extra controller and nunchuck was cheap also as an off brand.

you might want to look into that .

HEY! I saw those little tennis rackets, golf clubs, and guitar that have an insert for the controllers at the Dollar Tree! (everything is a dollar, LOL) I considered it, but then said no..........they look a little like weapons for my 10 & 13 year olds to use on each other if the game doesn't go according to plan

How are yours working out?

they work great , and with the price I couldn't pass it up. No problems with limited range or anything of that nature. seem to be sturdy as my 6 and 10 year old will use ANYTHING for wepons against each other. The 6 year old gave the 10 year old a black eye witht he tennis racket and it works with no problems and not narry a scratch on it , the kid is fine also.

That is actually the first thing I consider when shopping , "How could this be used as a weapon" LOL

Along with an extra remote and nunchuck, a classic controller may be a good idea as well. I play a lot of the Virtual Console games and most require the classic controller.

i agree with most here. A second controller makes it that much more fun and the sports game that comes with it was more than enough to keep us all entertained for a while. We still don't have that many games, guitar hero, zelda, some other "party games", but bowling and tennis are always favorites for everyone it seems and those come with the game itself.

Batteries last about a month or so with moderate play I'd say, but i think a charging station would be a lot more handy, but not necessary at first. Just the second controllers.
