He's starting to worry me a bit. Is it normal for a dog to kind of twitch, I caught him even shaking kinda hard once, is it normal for a dog when he sleeps to twitch a lot and do a lot of weird things like that?

He also sleeps sometimes with a tiny bit of his tongue hanging out.

Is it possible that he's just having puppy dreams?

My dobie Nikki had dreams all the time. You could pretty much guess what was happening in her dream by watching her. Her legs would twitch when she was "running", and she made these adorable little sleep-bark noises.

Depending on how hard he was shaking, he was probably just dreaming. It couldn't hurt to talk it over with your vet though, just in case.

Bronki always ate during his dreams...must have been some wonderful meals cause sometimes he even wagged his tail while he chewed and swallowed...
mary has chase dreams..lots of twitching and rapid eye movement...growls and low barks...victor still has bad dreams..growls and whines, lots of running movement in his feet with rapid eye movement too...I hope Bronki just never had a bad day of life to base a nightmare on in his imagination...from cradle to grave, i gave him my very best I wish i could stop Victor's dreams, don't know what they are based on, but i think he gets scared...mary i think is just in protect mode..can you tell i sleep with the dogs? wonder what they think of my dreams....

my babies do the same thing. First day we brought them home, one was playing so hard in her dream that hubby thought she was having a seizer!

The easiest way to tell the difference between an active dream or a seizer is how easy is it to wake them up. If they pop out of it when you try to wake them, it's just a dream.

Oh, those dreams they have. Even my adult dog can look like she's in a race in her sleep!

Well, I woke up him cause I got a bit scared and he kind of looked at me like, "I'm sleeping, silly." So he was fine when I woke him up. Alright, just making sure.

LOL! You should see the things Filas do in their sleep . . . Running, growling, tail thumping, twitching, singing, hiccuping . . .

Every single one of my GSDs had dreams and did the sleep running and twitching. Bimmer occasionally seems to be hunting in his sleep. No one wants to lay next to him when he's doing that

Poor Victor still has nightmares at night..he sounds just petrified..anybody else have shelter dogs that do this? The whining and crying would break your heart, i always wake him up and hold him closer.

It sounds like he's dreaming, I agree. Their also a thing called ticking, where they twitch in their sleep when they have distempter, but it sounds like he's dreaming.

Sounds like a dream to me too! Gus runs, eats, barks, yelps, wags his tail, you name it he does it when he's sleeping! He woke me up one night crying in his sleep, it was that really high pitched yelp that means i'm in pain!! Frightened the life out of me!
