Due to certain circumstances I am no longer going to be able to feed Harleigh RAW 100%. She definitely won't be off of it completely, but I'll be subbing in kibble more & more ;)

I've been researching and researching kibbles like crazy and I forgot just how frustrating the kibble world can be :yikes: lol

Anyways, I've got it narrowed down to Orijen Regional Red, maybe rotating with Orijen 6 Fish (I might be weird, but I just don't like feeding fish kibble 100% unless it is absolutely needed).

OR

Nature's Variety Instinct Duck Meal & Turkey Meal, probably rotating with a couple of their other formulas.

I've got it narrowed down to those from a LONG list. My main problem was trying to find something that would be good for Harleigh's active (& crazy) lifestyle she's got going. :D I figured those were the closest I would get, but who knows, I could be wrong. :p

I had looked at many performance foods and I haven't found 1 that doesn't contain Chicken. If you've got anything else that you would recommend (or you've found a performance food that doesn't contain chicken), don't hesitate. :)

I really liked their fish kibble. Why don't you like fish kibbles? The smell? (though that is what my dogs loved most lol)

I've seen far more dogs do better on Orijen than Nature's Variety through my store. Plus if you're still feeding raw some of the time Orijen tends to go along a bit better.

Anecdotal i know, but that's what i've seen.

If cost is an issue have you thought about using the Acana grain free formulas?

I can't say why theres a reason why I don't feel comfortable feeding fish all the time. Like I said - I'm just weird. lol

I'm not sure what they charge for the Regional Red at the local pet store, but I remember last time I looked, it wasn't that badly priced. I think I'm going to pick a sample of both of the foods up and see which one Harleigh likes better (which she loves everything, so probably won't help much ). I really like the looks of the Regional Red, but not sure I can do it with the price tag I've seen on some of the online websites.

She has been on Acana before and she did pretty good on it. We only tried the Grasslands, didn't try the Fish one. If the others don't work out, I'll probably go back to it.

I'd go with the Regional Red but like others have said it does come with a higher price tag!

Last time I checked it was in the 75$ range for the large bag.

I would go with Orijen. I keep Regional Red on hand for callouts, seminars, and the like. I fed it to all three of mine while we were in Chicago.

I believe NV duck formuka has chicken. Taste of the wild lamb doesn't contain chicken and its cheaper.

The more I look at Regional Red, the more I like it. I'll just have to see if its in my budget or not.

The NV doesn't have Chicken in it, though I think it used to? I'm not sure - I remember thinking it did at some point, but not sure if I'm thinking of a different food.

I've thought about TOTW, but I don't know if its powerful enough for Harleigh.:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! :)

I don't think the duck formula ever had chicken in it, but I could be wrong. There is a chicken instinct.

I like NV a lot. Been feeding prairie for a long time and am right now switching them to rabbit instinct. I know a lot of people really love the Orijen foods. I don't think you could really go wrong trying either of them. I lean more towards the instinct, I'm not much liking all the potato and peas stuff going on with Orijen, but the percentage of meat is high enough for me to forgive that I suppose.

I won't touch TOTW. Or anything else made by Diamond.

If I could afford it, I'd be feeding Orijen. As it stands I feed TOTW since it's a good deal cheaper.

The rabbit in the instinct and NV raw formula is sourced from China, some people don't mind but i thought it was worth mentioning.

Yeah, I know. They say so on their website. They also monitor the entire thing and I trust them (for now;)). :dunno: It's the only grain free formula I can even attempt to feed my dogs, so it's either deal with Chinese rabbit or feed grains.

As of right now both my dogs are on Diamond foods. Gavroche is in the TOTW and Logan is on the Naturals Extreme Athlete. The cats eat TOTW or 4Health (varies) which is also from Diamond. They seem to have actually learned from previous mistakes, unlike some other companies. I have not had any problems with any of their foods.

Considering my dog got seriously ill on their food, and a lot of other people's dogs also got ill on their Chicken Soup and the company wouldn't even consider pulling it despite many reports of sick dogs on it, I just can't bring myself to trust them. Don't tell me aflatoxins don't bind to rice and the food is safe because there's no corn in it!! Aflatoxins might prefer corn, but will in fact bind to rice. If they had pulled the food, I would feel differently about the company.

My vote is for the Orijen, as that is what I've fed in the past and my crew did excellent on it.

What about feeding both...mixing it up some?

I like Champion Pet Foods (Orijen/Acana) a bit better than I like Nature's Variety, from a company standpoint. All three brands, however, are excellent foods, and I would feel 100% comfortable feeding any of them.

My advice? You could feed one for awhile, and then switch, and just see which one she does better on. Or rotate through them - a lot of dogs do best with variety in their diets.

I'm not a fan of Diamond as a company AT ALL, and won't feed any of their products. I rarely recommend them, unless someone can't financially feed anything better - it is better than Purina, Ol Roy, etc.

Definitely Orijen - we had disastrous results on Nature's Variety because they use citric acid as a preservative.... nasty stuff!

Oh wait I'm thinking of TOTW's duck formula. I loved the dogs on NV which they loved too, but it was too expensive so I switched to TOTW and though the kibble size is bigger, they seem to do well and like it as well.

Oh as for the rabbit formula in NV it contains chicken fat, which causes bloat in larger breeds.
