Which TV Dog Trainer Would You Choose to Train Your Dog?

I like Victoria a lot! I'm friends with her on fb, she's actually talked to me and she's a no nonsense, hilarious, compassionate lady. I would love to get her tips.

Is she the best trainer in the world? Hell to the no. But compared to other famous trainers... Cesar, Brad, stupid dogs in the city dude... She is a straight up genius! At least she uses scientifically backed, real training methods rather than some crap she comes up with based on disproven, outdated theories that just give them an excuse to abuse dogs!

If you were to ask me what trainer I'd love to work with my dogs, it'd be Jean Donaldson. I've met her and watched her work with dogs and she is truly gifted... not to mention a legend!

For those of you saying you think Cesar is great as a person. Haha! Have you read what he has said about women? Women can't be leaders, they're natural followers. Women can't handle powerful breeds. I'm no feminist but what he says is unbelievably demeaning and idiotic, but people just laugh out off because he's goofy and has a strong accent.

Ahem, the breeders/handlers of the number one Kuvasz in North America right now are ALL women. Jeannine De Palma/Tamara Follett (ThunderHawk Caucasians) breed, handle, and train two of the fiercest breeds of dogs in the history of the planet - and both have been extremely successful with their dogs. I believe the Fila Kennel de la Luna is run by a lady as well.

Not to mention our Chaz members - Renee has three Filas, Houlahoops has her senior GSD and a Catahoula, Adrienne has Malinois and pit bulls, Planetmolleser (JDP I believe) has at least 8 Central Asian Ovcharka's, and of course me and my little Kuvasz. We're all doing pretty decently with our "powerful breeds" as well I would say.

At my current dog training class - the trainer is a woman, and with the exception of two more elderly men - the rest of the 20 + handlers in attendance of the class are all women. So ya - we are doing quite abit more than fine with our big, bad dogs Cesar. Thanks....

Anyways - Neither really. Vicky doesn't give enough reinforcement I agree and I have other issues with her style of training as well. Cesar...does it really need to be said?

My current trainer is excellent - but if I had to pick others...Michael Ellis, Sylvia Bishop, and possibly one of these army trainers - so cool =)

Stanley Coren!

His show isn't on anymore, but definitely him.

Then Victoria.

Cesar and Brad would never be allowed to "train" my dog.

Exactly, Stephy!!! And the irony of that is 90% of the great trainers imo are women. Of course, Ian Dunbar, and a few others rule. But my favorites and the ground-breakers are women.

Women are the worst offenders in his world. In one of the outtakes included in the four-DVD set of the first season of “Dog Whisperer,” Mr. Millan explains that a woman is “the only species that is wired different from the rest.” And a “woman always applies affection before discipline,” he says. “Man applies discipline then affection, so we’re more psychological than emotional. All animals follow dominant leaders; they don’t follow lovable leaders.”

Apparently women are their own species... lol! No wonder his wife divorced him.

Are those my only choices??

One reason why there will never be a dog trainer on TV that I'd be willing to have train my dog is because good training is very boring. It's quiet, it's undramatic and it would get only a couple more viewers than growing grass.

But between VS and CM, It might be entertaining to have Cesar touch my dog...

;)

...did I mention I use the "hiss and poke" as a cue for Tyr to start wrestling and biting?

But if he was actually in town, rest assured, I would keep them all safely several miles away.

Love this post.

I like Victoria but I don't agree with her pack theory stuff and putting those pictures on a board, showing who's on top, then who's next on the social ladder, then the dog on the bottom, as she explains to the owners alpha, dominance etc. That's old school and so disproved. But I do like how she handles dogs over all, with a few little things I'd do differently. She knows what to do right away to fix most problems. I don't really go for the noise making things on motion sensors...not really into intimidation. But mostly she's okay. She's cute, has a big personality and is good for TV. Compared to Cesar, well....you just can't mention them in the same breath. Cesar shouldn't be considered relevant to dogs in any way. I wouldn't let him anywhere close to my dogs because even if he didn't do anything direct to them, I think he would exude something that would cause my sensitive dogs to shrink like withering vines.

I love Jean Donaldson. She would be my first pick. And I like Kikopup on Youtube. She's really great. But like you say, CP, quiet, boring, no drama...probably not TV material, unfortunately. ;)

I don't have TV thank goodness otherwise I'd cry. I lived in Kelowna and people would tell me they met Brad and I'd go red in the face. He is the one who shall not be named in front of me.

well... if all the trainers in the world suddenly disappeared & i was left to force choose btw them i would choose Victoria for my current dogs, but for Izze CM believe it or not would have been the better choice. modern CM not the CM of seasons 1 through about 9 or so.

@Dekka totally unrelated i know but i have to know, what breed(s) of dog are Bounce & Dash? they are so cool looking!!!

I like Victoria Stilwell. But I'd rather train my own dogs.

Also, is anyone else annoyed that the article misspelled "Euthanize" horribly?

Someone mentioned at agility tonight that he is actually coming to our town for a lecture or something in October. The part of me that likes to watch crashes on You Tube kind of wants to go. But I'm not spending money on a ticket.

The dogs will be safely in the house.

I loled because the results of the blog poll are 95.7% Victoria and 4.3% for Cesar.

Victoria would be a better choice for my dogs because at least they'd be safe with her. To be honest, Strider would probably bite Cesar if he was tsst!ed at or kicked. He's not really a fan of men any more, and especially not strange men who put their hands on him or his family members in an unfriendly way.

A girl I know just spent $125 on a ticket for Cesar. I was trying to get free tickets for BP to go and ask ridiculous questions but it didn't pan out. I would have probably done bad things anyways.

I know some very nice people who I would trust my dog with who love Cesar.

They also have some of the best behaved dogs I've ever met. xD
