Hunter was a stray picked up by the Humane Society where THEY named him Hunter. He already knew his "new name", so I kept it. It fits him well. His collar is a Hunter Green color...

Riot got his name because i wanted a "police themed" name.. I went through Sergeant, Bullet, Sniper, Commander.. but Riot was the only one that really stuck with him, plus its also the easiest to call three times fast.

His reg'd name is Ravenmasques Summer Riot (pending). I had to include Ravenmasque because thats the kennel name and his litters theme was "summer" so that word also had to be in there.. and then Riot.. because thats his call name and it sort of suited the "summer riot" theme since I was soo excited to get him.

Jada got her name because her dads call name was Dallas and her moms call name was Jeannie, so Ja-Da. Her registered name is "MacBarras Jewel of the Isle" because shes a little jewel for my mom lol and Shelties originated from the Shetland Isles..

Crosby got his reg'd name [MacBarras Time to Remember] because he was named after our first SHeltie breeder (Jack Crosby). He was also a close family friend who passed away.

He just looked sad in the first pic I saw of him so I decided to call him Blue even before I picked him up.

The Bluedawg came later.

Sawyer because I'm a literary nerd and I like Mark Twain. Plus, his coat just reminds me of denim and his personality is always getting into trouble but being able to 'talk' his way out of it.

Aubrey from Cap't Jack Aubrey in the Patrick O'Brien books...would have named her Jack but that's too common and a boy's name to book. Daniel's favorite series (after Cornwell's Sharpe series) and his dog, but I picked the name. She was Guinness for a while because of her black and tan markings, but Daniel didn't want it getting shortened any so we just changed it. The shelter was calling her Sissy, which was just not going to fly in public.

Mary was named after a little girl i use to babysit and loved with my whole heart
Bronx (Bronki) was named after the cartoon gargoyle..Aaron chose this name
Victor was Gg's choice..she seemed to take such an interest in what he should be named and since she is the doggy sitter i figured anything that helped endear him to her would help

Ripley, because I had my heart set on "Joy's Believe it or Not" as his full name. Ripley just fit.

I'm not sure why Dakota was named Dakota. Originally we were going to call him Bruiser, but when I saw him I just said "hi Dakota!" and that was it.

I am planning on naming my next puppy Karma. I think it's a great name for a Border Collie, it is easy to say and easily distinguished from most other sounds (a must for a herding dog.) But when I meet her, I may change my mind about her name. I was also thinking of Firefly (Fly for short.) for her.

Shadows registered name is Princess Monique, princess seemed a bit girly so we were going to call her Moni, but we realised that sounded a lot like "monty" who is lee's parents dog, and we didnt want them getting confused. We sat around for ages thinking of names, we came up with loads of boys names, but couldnt think of any girls names. Then lee suggested Shadow, and it fit. Even thou most people thinks its a boys name! gggrrr! And she does follow me around like a shadow!

All of my Newfoundland dogs were previously named before I got them, so I had no choice. For Athena, her orginal name by her negectful owner was Zena...I hated that name but like the greek mythology idea...so I named her Athena which has the same ring to it and I love that name. For Beau, he didn't suit any greek gods when I found him (he looked more like a court jester, quick sad but freaky/funny looking)...so, I just picked up a dogs in Canda magazine flipped to the Dobe's, closed my eyes and just picked a picture....the dog in the picture was named Beau...so, that is how Beau got his name.

Baby was originally for my Mother in law and she didn't really give her a name just called her skitzy. No way was I calling her that. Plus if she was scared and shaking (she's a chi) you could rock her like a baby and she would calm down. Now you can even rocker her on her back.

Mira (also a chi) is actually Mira Ann- My grandmothers name was Mary (Mira translates to Mary) and Ann b/c it is my Moms middle name, same spelling. She gave me ANNE (w/ and E), since we aren't sure if we are having kids yet, I passed it to the dog (silly I know but she's my daughter)

And Jake (a boxer) is actually Prince Jakes Ace of Spades. He was named Jake b/c of the country song feed Jake. And his momma was pure black so he can throw black (rev brindles) puppies so that's the Ace of Spades. My husband spent a long time on this name. I added the Prince b/c he's my little prince.

:D

Honestly, I have no idea why I named my dogs the names I did. I guess I named Jasmine because I was watching Aladdin the day I got her and Jasmine is in that movie. Katy was Sadie when I got her from the shelter, but since she was abused I didn't want her to have that name anymore. And Maggie, well, I am clueless on that one. She was going to be Lilliana (Lilly for short) since that was my grandma's name, but my friend said "How about Maggie" and I think she's happier being Maggie anyway ;)
