What breeds would you never own?

I also forgot on my list that I wouldn't want a low energy type dog. I drag my dogs everywhere I can and I really need a higher energy dog to keep me up on my exercise! Seriously, knowing I have a dog that absolutely must have a lot of exercise makes me actually go out and be active, which is very nice and a good motivator.

Personally, I would never own a pitty type.With the laws the way they are, its not worth the financial risk in liability etc. Its personal reasons of a dear friend of mine. Second I would never own is a drool type breed. Last- a hyper breed.. Life to us is calm- and not everything needs to be announced.. ( like falling leaves etc.. lol)

No smoosh-faced breeds though I think French Bulldogs are adorable
No drooly breeds
No long backed breeds like Dachsies or Corgis
Nothing that sheds constantly and heavily
Nothing that yaps continuously (I love Poms and Cresteds but they have to be non-yappy)
Nothing bigger than a Standard Poodle

I don't have a really hard and fast set of rules about what breed not to get; but there are some things I'm going to be pretty hardcore about;

Dogs that don't float or can't swim fast enough to not drown - so probably no Bulldog or Frenchies for me. I live in a Canal town with lakes and quarries all round; so not really an option.

No coat stuff right now - I don't have the time, money or energy. But maybe when I'm older; and have more time, or energy.

No dogs that prefer to hunt or leave (no hounds/huskies) although I'm strangely drawn to a friend's Brittany; so maybe if that time magically appears when I'm older; maybe I'll take up hunting.

No labs; can't stand them.

No more LGD for me; Kim's enough.

Small breeds are essentially out; the cat is lucky he's still alive; don't really pay a lot of attention as to where my feet are. Thanks to the XBox for nearly decapitating my baby toe last night.

I love the mastiffs, the bull breeds, acd and dutch shepherds in the cattle dogs and for small dogs; I like Manchesters, some JRT, the Jagd terrier, Patterdales. I like strong dogs, hopefully when I'm older, I can still deal with them; if not I'll just change my mind.

There really isn't a breed that I can say I would never own. I admit it would take a little getting used to having a breed with a long face. After having Joey for so long, short faces are just normal for me, lol.

I'd personally shy away from any breed that needed professional grooming, though I would be fine with a summer cut each year. I would also prefer a larger dog, so I probably wouldn't consider anything much under 35lbs. As far as specific breeds:
German Shepard
Golden Retreiver
Lab
Husky/Malamute
Rott
Weim
Shiba-Inu
JRT
If the perfect dog were to come along and was one of, or a mix of these breeds, I woud consider it (with the exception of Rott and Shepard, stupid apartment), but I wouldn't go looking for one.

Poodles.
Nothing under 30 pounds, but I would possibly consider pomeranians, papillons, and pugs. Possibly.
Labs.
Golden retrievers.

I don't know... I already have a list of breeds that I WILL own someday, so I guess anything other than those 3 or 4 lol.
I said I would never ever have a poodle or bichon, and I somehow ended up with a mix of those two.
If a dog needed my help though and they were a good match for me, then the breed wouldn't matter.

Honestly.....I would not ever "no offence" take home or even consider a poodle....I honestly don't understand the appeal of them......Every single one i have met has been out of control and didn't get along with any other dogs....and i heard they are very stubborn and hard train. I am sure that for some people they are the perfect dog but not for me........Anything else im up for.

I Also wanted to ask what was with alot you guys saying you wouldnt want a Lab or Retriever?!? I am sure i am being by-est But Honestly i have never met a lab with a bad attitude......When we brought Tater home he was "sitting" in 2 days on command.....They are super smart and All they want to do is please you......Easy to train and love......But i guess that is not for everyone.

I would never own a lab because they don't appeal to me. I have met MANYYYY poorly trained and aggressive labs and goldens. Blaze has been physically attacked by 2 labs and 3 goldens. and I'm sure he would have been by many more if I didn't see them first and get him out of the way. Actually Im at my boyfriends house ATM and the next door lab (a chocolate lab) is the most aggressive dog I have ever seen. Blaze was attacked by him 2 weeks ago. that dog went in for the kill. I cant even put Blaze in their back yard becuase the dog trys and DIGS under the fence to get him. I don't blame the breed, I blame the owners. but either way they still do attack.

Same could be said why dont you want a poodle? Poodles are one of the smartest breeds. offcourse there is bad apples in every breed. growing up we had 2.5 poodles (one was half poodle half chi) they were all great dogs, maybe we were just good owners and trained them well. I think the stigma poodles get is that they are only "old" peopls dogs and are nothing but yappy lap dogs. which all the dogs we had were none of the above. well one just wanted to be a lap dog. but she loved everything in the world and was a great dog.

there is always positive experiences witht hem offcourse too.

i dont hate goldens or labs. just dont want to own one. I adore Blazes golden and lab friends he ahs that are properly trained,a s much as I love his french mastiff, irish wolfhound or newfie friends he has too lol. I dont hate any breed.

I don't remember if I've already posted, but anything with serious undercoat is OUT after knowing Bamm. I never want a Lab or GSD or anything with that kind of coat. NFW.

I would actually put poor training and bad breeding as hand in hand. At the core of every breed is a good dog, but then there's the folks that exploit the popularity and then the folks who are attracted to the breed for all the wrong reasons.

One of my training friends was dealing with a bad batch of Goldens a while back. Someone in her area was pumping out HA Golden Retrievers left and right and they were all ending up in her training club. It didn't matter how well-intentioned the owners were (well, let's forget the fact that they bought the dogs out of a newspaper ad, at least they were looking for help in the end), but the dogs were bad apples to begin with.

I think bad breeding, as well as bad handling, is probably one of the main reasons people have bad experiences with a breed. That's why I would never own a Wheaton Terrier no matter how much you paid me, because I've never had a good experience, but that doesn't mean good examples of the breed aren't out there, I just haven't met one yet. And I would love to meet a good one to change my mind.

Wheatons...now there's a breed you will NEVER catch me owning. I say I won't own labs, but obviously one has wormed her way into my heart. Never will be the case with a Wheaton. Like Paco said, maybe there are good ones out there, but I sure as heck haven't met one. They've all be crazy as hell, either DA or HA and then there are the special kids that have a touch of both. Like Nolu said, NFW. I realize they are a highly milled/BYB'd dog because they make ridiculously cute puppies and are "non-shedding" but geesh. I had one dog slip through the daycare gate, run back into the boarding area, find ME and bite me on the arm! Like he just zoomed out of nowhere and CHOMP. Luckily for me he had his feet out first and so I had the instinctual reaction to turn away and he only grazed me, but still. Psycho MF'er!
