Hi everyone! Summer is getting busy. I think we have our house sold...and not thru a real estate agency. :) We have our well dug at our homesite, and are going tomorrow to start picking out a modular. We have already decided on a company to buy from.
Although we had to drill two wells (the first one was dry at 600 feet)... The second we hit water at 140 feet! So that really set us back. Lol

The good news is not much hassle in the sale of our current home, and we will have money to pay off our land payment (36 acres), put in our septic, get the water run to the house, dig our basement, lay the block and have a good down payment on our modular. The garage with a second story is almost complete (there will be a small apartment/rec area above when complete) and this was done all out of pocket. So the upstairs apartment won't be finished until after we move into the house.

The bad news is we will be roughing it after the closing on our current home. We will be staying at our summer camp with less than standard ammenities. :yikes: But hey, it's summer, I can handle it...... I think. After the closing we will order our modular and it will take up to seven weeks for it to be delivered.

Anyway, If you have read thru all this thread, you might be interested to know, I am looking into getting another dog after the move. I am looking into shelters/pounds in the area, but I am trying to decide on a breed or a mix, for when the time comes...probably the first of sept. after everything gets situated. But I have some wants (probably unrealistic Lol) I want a young dog/pup and I want a cuddler, surprisingly I feel the need for a small lap type dog. Very loyal to the whole family. Not a spastic barker. Something like a large, good dog attitude in a small body. Dog friendly, kid friendly. Not a wuss, and able to rough and tumble. As the dog will be living with large dogs, and kids.

I get great enjoyment from my big dogs and have always favored larger dogs. But for some reason, I feel the need to have a companion that can sit on my lap and I can carry around. All my dogs have jobs, plus being family members... I just want to add to this and save a pup/young dog from the shelter and experience what it is like to have a small dog too.
So, what does everyone think the "breed" or "mix" for me would be?

Oh yea.... I may just dissappear for a while within the next month, and it may take a couple months after that for me to be back online. So if anyone "wonders" about me, I will be very busy getting moved etc. But that really shouldn't happen for at least 3 weeks, so for now, I will check in often when I am home!
Thanks for any suggestions on dog breeds,

Julie.

I was going to say "get a newf!" but I guess that doesn't fit into your small dog criteria. You should get a newf sometime. I think they'd be perfect for you :D

Your land sounds great and I'm sure you'll rough it just fine. Kinda sounds fun! Your dogs will like it anyway.

Aww Saje, I have always wanted a newf. But I also have this weird yearning recently to experience a small dog... but how will I really know if a small dog would "fit" into my family? Lol, I mean before I give it a try. Maybe it is just "a thing" in my head, maybe I should just get another large breed.... lol at least I know them and know what to expect. Regardless I want another dog after we get settled!

Oh, and the dogs will definately enjoy our summer long "camping" experience. Lol

Maybe you can foster one from a shelter and see how they fit? I don't know breeds that well so I can't really recommend a little one. You still want a swimmer?

That sounds great! I have a really silly question, but what is a modular? Is it a predesigned home?

Good luck with the pup hunt ;)

That is a good idea... I could easily foster for the local humane society before I commit. Since we do spend alot of time around water, it would be great to have a dog that liked to swim.

It is basically a pre-built home that is delivered in sections. It is more less stick built but in a factory and not on site. Our plans originally were to build a home ourselves, but after our massive garage and the time that took, plus my husband works alot of hours, and we just don't have the time or patience within our marriage to "build" a house. Lol
The septic, basement, and all we have been thru with getting our site ready is all we can "take".
If anybody has the desire to "test" their marriage, just buy a raw piece of land and try to make it a home.... LOL:D

That's what I thought... I searched for modular, and there are some REALLY nice homes!

When I was in highschool, they had these "modulars" where some classes were held since our school was crowded.. they were these tiny little rectangular buildings. I figured it was completely different though. lol.

Your pups are going to love having 36 acres... lucky!!!

Other than the barking (which CAN be controlled with good training - which you're good at!), a Corgi fits the bill. They are affectionate dogs, love to cuddle/wrestle, get along great with big dogs, very easygoing... and they ARE big dogs in small bodies!
