My fiance and I just moved into a new apartment. We thought we were getting a great deal. The rent on our one bedroom which was far from where we work was going up to $660 a month, so we found a new place. Only $620 a month for a 2 bedroom townhouse, and it's right across the street from where I work. So as we moved in yesterday, I noticed some minor and some not so minor issues. First the paint job is horrible. The paint extends down onto the counter tops and onto the ceramic tile. Speaking of the countertop, it is painted and scratches when you put stuff on it. In the upstairs bathroom, the paint was peeling back over the tub and the towel rack was coming out of the wall. It looked like it was torn out at one point and they didn't bother to fix it. So anyway today when we hand in our inspection I made note of the minor issues that didn't need to be fixed, but just looked bad. I also had them draw up a work order for the towel rack and the paint above the tub. So the maintenance guy spackles above the tub and tells my fiance "Well it doesn't look good, but it won't fall down on your head." Then he moves the towel rack up a couple inches and spackles the holes. So Chris asks if he is going to sand it down and paint it, to which he replies "Oh, did you want me to. I guess I can come back tomorrow." I wasn't here through all this, but apparently the maintenance man is about 80 years old and doesn't get around very well anyway. So we spend most of the day at our old apartment cleaning and come home to find worst problem of all. We have a huge leak above our dining room table. Thank god we had Maya with us, as it is also leaking right into her crate. (Her crate will now be moved elsewhere, cause even when the fix this I don't trust it. So now I am missing my small, but wonderful one bedroom apartment, and wishing I had never signed a 1 year lease on this place. Thank God for my digital camera. I have pictures of all of the issues. Even if this leak is taken care of properly. The management group that owns these apartments is getting a long letter about the quality of their apartment. And every apartment rating place on line is getting a horrible review in hopes that at least one other person will see and decide not to move in here. LOL at least one person won't. My fiance went to the office to tell them and they had just finished giving someone a tour when he walked in. My fiance walks in and says "I'm a little pissed, it's my second day here and my celing is leaking. I'm sure that guy will look elsewhere. Anyway sorry for the long post, I just needed to vent. LOL and now my fiance informs me the cable won't come in clear, cause some idiot painted over the connection. I'm going to try very hard not to be really really mean to the maintenance guy when he gets here.
