The puppy screaming will stop? :( This puppy is a screamer. The 'omg headache' kind.

Please tell me that eventually she'll stop. . .that ignoring her works. I've been spoiled with easy puppies. :p

Is it just in the crate? Juno screamed for about 3 weeks. :D I had to listen to my iPod every night in order to fall asleep. It didn't really make sleeping any easier... but the music was a lot more enjoyable than all the racket she was making lol.

It should as long as you don't give up.

When I got Kiah as a 5 1/2 month old pup, I did a lot of focus games, recalls etc in the beginning. And she got very attached to me, quickly which is what I wanted. However, she then would scream if I left the room and when she was crated or in the x-pen. It was driving my entire family nuts and the human ones where complaining A LOT lol. If I left the room, she would scream and then I would have to stay away until she stopped and I never said a word to her. For 2-3 days I spent a lot of time away from my family lol. I begged my family to have some patience, that if I handle it right, she would stop and it wouldn't be a problem but if I didn't it would be a problem forever.........
She finally stopped and it has never been a problem since.

Good luck.

It should get better. Ripley was a screamer for the first week and a half we had him. He's over it now. He'd scream if we left him in the kitchen for 2 minutes, he'd scream if we crated him, etc. And then one day we noticed that he was all of a sudden quiet, LOL. He doesn't scream anymore at all. :)

It will stop, eventually....Shane was the same way. And many wonderful Chazzers told me to just ignore him...and let him cry, I followed all the advice and he finally stopped. Thanks again Chazzers! ((((((((((hugs)))))))). Oh and good luck. Get some ear plugs, that's what hubby finally did, he couldn't stand it. Putting Shane in the crate next to the bed also helped ALOT. He just wanted to be close.

Hahaha, Finn did that too. It just suddenly STOPPED. Although, he never cried much, except sometimes overnight. He just consistently whined :p

Sorry but i am not one to ever ignore a crying baby. I don't think it is natural to do so. I am not a crate person either. My puppies, belong with me. IF they can't be with me..i find someone for them to be with.

So... we're all wrong? Bad pet owners?

Seems a very rude thing to say in this thread. :(

I gotta say... I agree with Allie. That was pretty rude and uncalled for.
Rosey is NOT crated. She never has been crated. There was never a need for it, however, there is need for other people. Some people prefer that their dog is crate trained, that's their opinion, which they are definitely allowed to have. Just as I wouldn't expect anybody to put me down for my choice of Rosey NOT being crate trained, I would never outright say that my way is better, and imply that it makes me a "better pet owner".

As for the original point of the thread, Rosey never whined as a puppy :D So, not really any help there lol. Then again, she slept on my bed, beside me all night and was always around somebody. I mean, it's possible she whined while we were gone... but I don't know, we were gone :lol-sign:

Sometimes all a dog wants is a little company. Just like all of us. It is true that their needs should not cause you to go out of your way every single day, and that spoiling them can be sometimes harmful, but it is important that they know you are there for them when they need it most

they say that up until one year of age for a human infant u SHOULD pick them up every time they cry.

After that, they need to learn some independence.

Im not sure when that same timeframe for a puppy would be, but being taken from its litter and mother is a scary time, so what I did with Kody was let him be with me for a couple days, sleep on the bed and whatnot, and then when he was asleep, id put him in his crate, and then when he fell back asleep id close it.

worth a shot?

Puppies aren't the same as human babies. Coddling them is counterproductive. And unless you have the luxury of being home all day which most working people don't, you can't be with your dog at all times, and the sooner you teach them that they're just going to have to be alone sometimes, the better IMO.

jasper was a SCREAMER, (and cresties yodle so it seriously sounded like a baby was being murdered every night)
i came on here for the same advice and reassurance...
ignoring him wasnt working...

so what i did was move his crate RIGHT next to the bed, when he squeeked id tell him no sleepy time and put my hand down so he could touch my fingers and see/smell me.
I also put a fleece blanket in with him that id slept with the night before (had 3 so i could alternate them), no joke, that first night was like a dream, he squeeked once, i told him sleepy time, offered him my fingers and scilence...
2nd night nothing, not a squeek, by the end of that week, i didnt have to reassure him at all in the night, so the next week i moved the crate a few inches from the bed...continued as normal...no crying, no nothing...i kept moving the crate away a little at a time, ok so it was a little time consuming getting his crate to the point i could have +
it anywhere in the bedroom and him not worry or freek out, BUT i slept, he slept IN his crate without a problem...
and now i can take his crate anywhere and hell sleep in it no problems.

i cant leave him alone in his crate during the day, he still screams...our first day in the new place...
i crated him and ruby because we were moving stuff and jasper has decided hes a door buster...
and the cops show up...one of our neighbors actually called the cops for a domestic disturbance...
were not clear if it actually was because jasper was screaming like a banshee, or if theyd got the adress wrong (cause hes only 5lbs, hes not loud enough for someone on the other end of the street to complain about...) but it seriosuly sounds creepy lol.

but at night...he goes in his crate, i cover him up and out like a light without any problems...

i was about 1 more night from just giving up and letting him sleep in the bed before moving his crate and it made a huge difference.
