With Palin she even put on ebay the jet to reduce spending. Put oil money back in the pockets of people in Alaska, even drives herself to work.. I wish she had been on the President ticket but will settle for Vice pres..
All noble things. But don't be so sure that it will translate to Washington, or that any of her other policies will be benefical. Too many things about her politics ring alarm bells in my mind. She might be genuinely frugal . . . or she might know how to play people like a fish on a line. Or she may be frugal, but so off the deep end on other issues as to neutralize that (She supported Bucanan in 2000). Or she may not be frugal. . . the town she was Mayor of had no debt when she took office and was 20 million in debt when she left.

Sparks, Alaska citizens ALWAYS recieve money from the Alaskan government. They pay no state taxes, and get money from the oil. Its always been that way. LArgely, Alaska pulls this off by having: not very many people, a lot of oil and gas, and a talent for getting the Federal government to pay for everything. Good for them. But whether she can pull that off at the Federal level, leaving aside whether she'll actually try, is another question.

LOL. Of course it is a reflection on her. What kind of responsible parents lets their 17 year old that is not even a ADULT in the eyes of a the law get pregnant? a parent that doesn't give a crap, that is what.

Right, so you have NO responsibilty for what your child does then? you'd have to be pretty dumb to get pregnant at 17 anyway, but you can't say that a parent has no influence over a child at that age.
I have not read this whole thread have only made it this far and I know there are many more pages to it however I have to comment......

WOW....... I guess I am dumb with terrible parents who don't give a crap:yikes:

I made a choice and the result is my well loved 17 year old daughter, The man whom even at 17 I knew was to be my husband and I struggled and those terrible parents **gasp** helped us through the first few years... My parents were and are loving people, responsible adults and very caring parents whose daughter wound up pregnant end of story.... Not ANYTHING they did wrong AT ALL.....

Oh in case you were wondering my husband and I celebrate our 17th anniversary on Sunday, we were young, we struggled but we have made it and many of my kids friends whose parents did it *Right* are now split!!

Every case is unique, every situation individual and you CANNOT POSSIBLY be able to say that the parent of every 17 year old who gets pregnant is:
a parent that doesn't give a crap, that is what.
Thats a HORRIBLY offensive, untrue stereotype!!!!!!

Sorry to bring something up from waaaay back in a thread I just had too comment because a pregnant 17 year old was me....

consider the source LauraLeigh :) and good for you for making it work. You got pregnant. You faced up to it... took responsibility and faced it head on. I think THAT is a wonderful testament to the kind of parents you had and others like you who don't just cut and run at the first sign of adversity. :) You made a choice and you dealt with the "consequences" (I hate to use that word when talking about a child but I can't think of a better one right now) and handled it like an adult. Now where do people think you learned to have that kind of courage and responsibility... your PARENTS that's where.

Lilavati, I suppose you can throw all the statistics you want our there but most of my info comes straight from the people who have personal experience with Palin.... Alaskans. Now of course I only know a handful and that's nothing compared to the entire population but I have not yet come across one who has negative things to say about her term as Mayor or her term as Governor. She has a 90% (give or take some) approval rating and I have heard great things about her straight from the horses mouth. No... it doesn't guarantee that everything will carry over into her VP position... but the same can be said for every candidate out there whether running for mayor or for president. there are no guarantees. but hearing from the people who have lived personally with her policies and her actions and have nothing but good things to report means a lot more to me than media and statistics. but that's just me.

There are many, many loving, caring, responsible parents out there whose kids make childish, irresponsible, and stupid decisions. Some of them get into quite a bit of trouble. I know it breaks their parents' hearts. It is almost impossible to keep someone else from making mistakes, sometimes disastrous ones, no matter how much you love them.

Those like LauraLeigh take responsibility for the choices they make, and have parents who guide them through the rough waves.

And there are those teenagers out there who don't have parental guidance.

My young adult children have certainly not done all the 'right' things. Every once in awhile, I question whether I've done everything as a parent to have prepared them to make those decisions when they come along. If I don't dwell on it too long, I know we've done what we've thought is best, and I also know they are accountable for what they do at this point.

Oh that's TOO GOOD! :rofl1:

As far as Alaskans and Palin, I was listening to the radio the other day and the DJ's were calling up random Wasillians to ask their opinion. More than a couple said that she a great job there in town but aren't going to vote for her in the election.

To be totally fair, they were more concerned with McCain and what he might do than they were with Palin but they didn't exactly cast a rousing vote of support for her either.

My mom and dad had me 1 week after my mom turned 18, She was 17 and walking across the stage for graduation with me in the belly ready to come out. They've been together over 30 years now.

I think the Irony is she likes to talk about how families that have God in them and what they teach don't have those problems and that other "liberal" ideas don't work, and then bam look at what happens to her perfect world.

Not that I care if her daughter is pregnant or not, nor should it even really be more than a passing thing that people notice and then move on to the important stuff like the real story behind her "bridge to nowhere"

How she wanted to bridge and campained for Gov. wanting the bridge telling alaskans it would be built. All the while knowing that congress had earmarked over 200 million dollars for the project. After she became gov and the 200+ million dollar earmark was removed she decided maybe the bridge wasn't such a good idea.

She actually recieved the 200+ million not in funds for the bridge, but instead in the form of transportation money to do with what she chose. She kept the money and didn't build any bridge, she said "thanks, but no thanks to congress" by keeping the money and not building the bridge she campained for. Real stand up, Maybe her name should be mr. John Kerry, Flip Flop and how she complains about sexism in the media and when asked about Hillary's complaint of sexism earlier, she called Hillary a whiner. She's a pollitician thru and thru. Lots of fluff and no substance. I'm very disappointed in McCains choice.

McCain was sure fired up last night !
Yeah he was. It's sad to see him trying to move his arms. I mean it is apparently a miracle he can move them at all but wow.

And before anyone jumps on it... NO that is not a reason to vote for him. but I do feel badly for him whenever I see him trying to move his arms. I can't even begin to imagine what that ordeal must have been like for him and the others that were in the cells where he was... or any other POW camp :(

Can't tell you. I've never seen it or even heard about it.

there's a lot of nonsense on youtube so I don't really take anything too seriously from there. Unless it was posted by the person in the video I assume that most things are edited unless it's proven otherwise.

but I've never seen it or heard of it. I'm pretty out of the youtube loop. I don't spend much time there lol.

Yep, its for real. And very strange at that. Unlike the Bush book one.

And yeah, seeing him move his arms was kind of . . . well, he probably shouldn't do that, it must hurt.

I don't know if it will still hurt just to move them anymore but could you IMAGINE the arthritis and the aching?

And his mother is 96? Holy smokes... she moves like she's still in her 30's. When he introduced her she just stood right up out of her chair like there wasn't an aching bone in her body. she's pretty spry for 96 years... young.
