Jim is going to be gone all day and I have been a real Beach lately. I want to have the kids stay home. Go to the bank and store with me and spend a little money on something fun. I want to get the Scene it television game and play all day with them! Get a veggie dip, stuff for sub sandwiches. MMMM
Should I?

Yah unless of course they have a test or something.

A spontaneous break from school? Hells yah! I'd take it in a heartbeat.

I used to love doing that, (I also loved snow days!) and it's great to have a spontaneous break from the norm. good for the spirit. I agree tho...as long as nothing important is going on, one day missed isn't going to hurt. sounds like fun, and the kids will think it much more special than if it were a Sat. :) enjoy.

yeah. sometimes we'd all get up and mum would go. "lets stay home today" and she'd call in sick and we'd not go to school and we'd just hang around together all day. it was so much fun. only happenend maybe, three times though.

For sure! As long as nothing big like a test or anything is going to happen... everyone could use a "mental health day" every now and then!

I've tried to get arielle to play hookie and she refuses. She loves school... she loves socializing with her friends.

DEFINATELY!!!!

my mom definately NEVER EVER would allow it for me, lol. I got in huge trouble with her for missing ONE stupid class (health class...) to go out to lunch with my sister who had been abroad for a whole semester

Sure, why not? My mom used to do that stuff occasionally when I was younger and it is a real treat. I think it would be cool and good bonding time.

My mom never did that for me. *sniffle* I feel so deprived. It sounds like a great idea and loads of fun!

Man you people who's moms would do that are lucky lucky. My mom comes down hard on me if I get so much as a B in a class. If I skipped one she'd have my head.

But now that I live away from home, what she doesn't know won't hurt her. I enjoy sleeping through 8 AM classes from time to time.

Same here! :(

Gemp, we should form a club and only those people without awesomely cool mom's can join. ;) Ok, my mom is pretty cool in her own right, but I never got to skip school.

That's a great idea Mom...go for it!:hail:

I used to do this with Jordon....I miss that now that he's all grown up..:(

I'd get him up to a yummier than normal breakfast..pancakes and bacon instead of cereal:p , and I'd have everything set up around the big screen, blankets, rented movies that he'd wanted to see... We'd eat snacks and watch movies all day (he was a real movie nut)..

We called them R&R days.:) They were as much for me as they were for him...a chance to reconnect..

I guess I'm the odd ball. I don't think I ever did that because my kids missed a fair amount being sick and the snow days off. Even sometimes it was suppose to snow and school was on, but we lived at a high elevation and it would be worse and I didn't have all wheel drive then (lol) so, I let them stay home occasionally for that. They had to do their school work but then could go sled. I was a real stickler though for trying to instill repsonsibility and not let them think that it was OK to goof off when they had a comittment....like later when they would have jobs. School first and the days off, we'd do something special sometimes. But as long as they have a good "work ethic" and do well, don't miss too much otherwise and have earned it, why not? It would give you the cool mother of the year badge for sure. LOL. The benefits just might just out weigh the cons in some cases.

I don't like the idea. What's the point in being a kid if your mom's so cool she lets you skip school? If you're too cool, they'll end up starting a Young Republicans chapter at school just to rebel, and then you'll be sorry:) Seriously, though, being a little lenient when they're really unhappy at school, or a little sick or the weather's awful (personally, I feel a bad rain day should be a freebie) makes sense, but just a 'hey, Mom says we can sit around eating dip and watching TV!' doesn't appeal to me.
