LMFAO oh my... who knew dental hygenists could cause such turmoil lol.

Good thing they hire dental hygenists and physicians assistants ... more jobs :) and with the lack of Dr's in so many places you better be happy you get to see anyone. if I need antibiotics and the PA can see me now and the Dr can't see me until next week... I'll go with the PA ;) But I must just be buying into the hype lol.

I have a physical appt. Tuesday . The last time I inquired they were out of Shingles shots . If available , I sure don't expect my Doctor to stick me , anymore than I expect her to take my BP , blood or urine sample !

I might try out a few different vets, write a letter to the current vet with the rude staff, and see if you can find a nice vet that you like even more, with staff just as wonderful as the vet herself... see how you like other vet clinics. There are plenty of other wonderful vets with great staff as well.

but I've noticed that a lot of people who work with pets become jaded by all of the irresponsible owners, and can get very direct about their advice.
I expect that is just the case. I'm lucky enough that the owners I deal with (horses, not dogs) are generally knowledgable and very well-meaning, and yet I still feel like I'm beating my head against the wall trying to get a point across to them occasionally. It does make me more prone to being a bit blunt at times, although I hope I don't ever cross the line to being rude. But after suggesting mildly over and over that someone's horse was maybe a bit heavy, and then having it finally founder one day, I do try to make sure I'm being heard.

I'm not a very confrontational person, so I would just disregard most of what the vet techs say. If they comment on your dog's weight, I'd just say "I'll be sure to ask Dr. Whatever about it". If they give training advice, "Thanks, I'm really happy with the trainer I'm working with".

It would take a lot for me to leave a vet that I had a good relationship with; I don't think I'd leave over techs who were rude or blunt.

And on the thread hijack topic, I expect that my rate for a cleaning is based on a hygentist doing the actual cleaning. After dealing with an almost-abusive dentist as a child, I actually much prefer the hygentists. I find them to be much more patient than even the very-nice dentist I now use as an adult.

I would go to a new vet. I wouldn't put up with the staff making me feel like an incompetant. All the vets I have dealt with and their staff have always been very professional and friendly and supportive. Guess I have great vet care for all my animals. :)

I might surmise a few things here, one in the knowledge that you have been going to the same vet for quite a while.

There is a saying that "familiarity breeds contempt". I have been to most of the area vets and am now happy at the clinic I go to now. It's not "better", I don't like the vets any more or less, but I think I get the most service for the price. The people are casually friendly, but not overly so.

My second choice of a vet clinic has vets whom I've known for almost 25 years, and I've also known some of the staff that long. Some are people I went to high school with. I've known about their personal lives, and they probably know alot about mine. They aren't the friendliest people in the world, they don't smile, joke or even seem happy when there are customers standing in front of them. They don't ooh-aah over anyone's pets. The services at this clinic are significantly more expensive, probably to pay for the new building. I just always figure that the staff is not experiencing a good day, a good week, month, year... or a good life....They don't have to be nice because I know them and I understand.

You're quite right. You know, I should KNOW by now to NEVER go online on "that" day... sigh.

Sorry everyone - definitely an over reaction to something that, for some reason, always upsets me. My apologies.

I just wanted to add my piece about dental hygienists. My sister is currently in school to be one, and you would not BELIEVE the amount of studying and work she has to do for her classes. She has to study for like four hours every day. There is so much information she has to absorb. I never knew there were all those muscle groups in the tongue.

Dental assistants, the people that sit there and hand the dentist stuff while he/she works on your teeth, are different. They don't have any schooling, they just get hired and trained in the office.
