Is this just something instinctual that all dogs do, or a learned behavior? My past dog (Chloe) and Abrams are pros at coming over to me, laying their head either gently on me or right by me, and then giving me puppy dog eyes when they really want something. I want to know where they learned to do it! The dogs I had growing up never did it, and the two wee ones (Gracie and Cooper) don't do it either.

Come to think of it, Cynder does it, too. Only she tends to drape the front half of her body on you when she does it, versus just her head.

I just wanted to say that's SO adorable..

None of our dogs' eyebrows do that when they give puppy dog eyes so it's definitely not as effective.

I really don't know why, but I do know that I cannot say "no" to a baby seal.

omg he is adorable.

Juno is really good at this too, but she's the only one here that does it.

Auggie does the whole resting his chin on you thing and being like "oh hi... I love you... and I'm Auggie... here I am..." but he doesn't have that puppy-dog-eyes look down.
P, on the other hand... ohhhhhh baby P. Yeah. He's got it. And he knows it. Even if he's in trouble with the other dogs he's like "*puppy dog eyes?*" So funny.

Violet does. She does the exact same face that Abrams is doing in that pic lol! She lays her head on my lap and looks up like that. It's usually because she has to go out to potty or she needs something (water, etc).

I don't think Watson does it on purpose to be manipulative - he's not that smart. He does do it inadvertently all the time because he's a spaniel and he can't help it.

Maya does that when she wants to get up on the couch....she will put her chin on the part of the couch she wants to sit on and will stay like that until someone pats the couch and says it's OK.

Of course, I have no idea where or why she learned that, because she's allowed on any of the couches at any time, so I think it's cute that she decided that she needed permission! :rofl1:

Has to be a bit of both. Angel would do puppy dog eyes a bit, but after a year under her sister's expert mentoring, she has perfected the puppy eyes of doom. Lucy has always been a pro and I definitely saw Angel get better over the first year we had her.
