I'm so very very sorry. What a tragic accident--I have 2 horses myself and I am tearfully reading this thread. They are such strong yet fragile animals. The poems that were posted were excellent--I'm sorry you are going through this. RIP Cabaret and big hugs to you Sush.

Soo sorry. I know how you feel. My dog was killed by a car. Big SUV. The car hit him (he yelped) & kept going, ran him over and all you heard was thump, thump.

I wish the impact of him hitting his head on the car or cement just killed him instantly and not having to feel the pain of beinging ran over!

When I saw him. He had no wounds, he just began to bleed from his nose. And he was just this tiny small 12lb dog.

SOrry for your loss, RIP CARARABET.

Sush, I just saw this and I am so sorry. It really hits home for me. I lost my first horse Sahara, just as tragically in '99. It broke my heart and I couldn't talk about it either. It took me almost a year before I could tell her story and I would break down regularly. Most of the time in the shower so no one new. It's so devastating. It's a horrible decision to make but you did the right thing. I wish I could turn back time and undo it all for you. (((hugs)))

Oh yeah, shower time is the worst. I don't think I've ever cried as hard as I have been doing in the shower. I'll just sit down on the shower floor and let it all come out. I've also been on the phone with my mom alot because she's the only one I really feel comfortable crying in front of. The key so far is keeping myself busy...Chaz is helping me with that as well :) There is alot of down time at work so this is filling the time nicely. Thank you for your hugs!

Are you able to do anything with the body? We boarded and didn't have a place to bury Sahara. That always bothered me. I kept a lock of her mane so I could have a piece of her with me.

She's actually going to be cremated this week and I'll be heading back down south to collect her ashes. I'm either going to spread them in the ocean (never got to bring her there but I know she would have loved it :)) or spread them in the hills where we used to go on trails. I didn't even think to get a lock of hair...I never even looked at her under the tarp. I couldn't bring myself to see her that way. I'm having a moment now :(

I'm glad you can do that. I'm sure that will bring you some peace. I wish I could have for Sahara and Sakari

Sorry I was kind of late reading this, but I couldn't not comment. Your story brought tears to my eyes. I also lost an animal in a tragic way..my indoor cat was killed by my neighbor's mean dogs right in front of me and there was nothing I could do. It was horrible and so painful for me and for her, too, I'm sure. And that was just a little cat! I know losing a horse must be even harder. I don't understand why such tragic things have to happen sometimes. You're in my thoughts and prayers. ((((((((((hugs))))))))))
