On Thursday our 10month old Doberman, took forever to eat his breakast. Normally he eats so fast the SPCA would think we starved him. It took him a good 10 mins to eat it. On our way to work he puked all his breakfast out in the car.
At work he puked again. Plus he was dripping watery poo out his bum.
Luckily enough we already had him a vet appointment to get his kennel cough shot that day.
The vet felt his little tummy and he was tender. She checked his poo and it was runny but normal colored. Took his temp and it was normal. they gave him a bit of IVs cause he hadn't been drinking much and gave me some anti-dairheals (SP?) to help his pooping. We thought maybe he drank some rank water at the dog park and it had upset his tummy. Bill was 240 or so
They ssaid to feed him only half his normal dinner that night. Daytag only ate half of that (very slowly).
The next morning (friday) he should have felt better but this time he only ate 1/4 of the halved breakfast. And he was very listless.
So we brought him back to the vets again. She said he felt less tender and his poo was a bit harder. His temp was still normal. She decided to take x-rays, blood work, and keep him overnight on IV.
Bloodwork was normal except a slightly (very slight) raise in white blood cell count. X-ray showed that he had a lot of gas but they couldn't see anything else. So they gave him some Bronium or something. It coats the stomach to soothe it and move things through.
The next morning (saturday)he was pooping better and feeling better. So I got to pick him up. Got specail food from the vet (I hate VET food but decided to try it this time to show them it didn't work) Bill was 700.
saturday he was good. ate his supper and kept it down.
Sunday my dad accidentally fed him the wrong food (his regular food) He had explosive diarrhea in the house. The rest of the day he was very liquidy when he pooped. He looked ok, he wsn't lying down and such but he was quite s.ucky.
Monday as we were heading to work (we didn't feed him cause of the diarrhea) he puked twice.and had dairrhea (the last time was a little reddish in color) So we got him in to the vet immediately.
The vet called us and told us again the x-ray showed a lot of gas but nothing else, blood work was normal. He ate a bit but then puked it up and refused to eat again.
She said we had 2 choices. 24-48 hours of IV fluids again to see if that helps or do surgery to see it there is some plastic foreign objects or take biopsys to check for food allergies.

After a bit of talk we decided to go straight for the surgery.
Turns out he did have foreign bodies and one of them tore open his intestines. She had to but out 6 inches of intestine, but the intestine is so thin that it tears easily making suturing difficult. She got it done, but says he needs to be in a vet hospital with 24 hour care incase it opens and they need to do emergency surgery. She said he was ok for tonight cause he was heavily sedated but we must take him there tomorrow. The bill for the surgery (we haven't gotten it yet as we will get him tomorrow) is aout 1000.
All the overnight hospitilation and emergency surgery if needed is going to cost a TON.

I can't beleive it. My poor little baby boy is so sick. Please everyone pray for our baby boy and that he pulls through. We just want him home and healthy!

Poor puppy!
Well...good thing you went ahead with the surgery. Most people wait until it's as bad as can be and THEN do the surgery. And with the damage that his intestines had already had...who knows how much worse it would have been after 24-48 hours.
Darn foreign body dogs! Some dogs just don't have sense when it comes to non-food items. What did they find?
As an amusing sidenote....we did an exploratory on a golden retriever at work (emerg animal hospital) abour 6 months ago and they did indeed find a foreign body...a very large black pair of underwear. Completely intact! They had obviously been swallowed whole. And they were like...XL size! Man we had a good laugh when those popped out of this dog's intestines... Owners were probably pretty embarrassed. :D

Thanks. yes we are very glad we did the surgery immediately.
I am not sure what they found. My mom talked to them on the phone so I am not sure exactly what all was said.
Normally isn't an eater, just a shredder but obviously he ate something

Thanks guys. So a bit of an update.
Went and saw Daytag this morning. He is awake, tho acting very s.ucky. He is on pain medication but the lighter kind. She wanted to try this kind as with it he can move a tiny bit and drink and such. If he started to whine alot she would put him back on the stronger stuff.
So found out a bit more about the surgery and such. The reason why she is so worried is because she could not get far enough up the intestine to take it off to complete healthy intestine. His chest is just to deep, she couldn't get that fat under it. So the stuff she had to attach together was still just a little red and unhappy, so if anything goes wrong that's where it would go wrong.
She said tomorrow will be the key day. If anything would go wrong she thought it would happen tomorrow. So she still wants him to go to the other hospital b/c she doesn't feel skilled enough to try again if he opens up and these vets are surgeon specialists and such. and They will have people there in case he needs it at 2 in the morning.
They showed us what he had in him. There looked to be a bottle cap, but the thing that caused biggest problem was this hard brown plastic. I just suddenly thought of what it could be. I had had a sunscreen bottle in my car like 4 weeks ago and he started to try to eat it. I was driving at the time so couldn't stop him and I bet that's what that brown stuff was. Gosh now don't I feel terrible!!

I will have pictures up possible tonight from our visit with him today. We will be transferring him this afternoon to the other hospital.

Thanks guys. Daytag is doing VERY well. The 24 hour care hospital would have sent him home yesterday already he was doing so well but my regular vet wanted him to stay one more day just in case. We will hopefully be leaving soon to go pick him up!

Nini I have reported your post and it will be deleted
