Cookie is an Akita.

In my opinion, I don't think she looks ANYTHING like an Akita. I thought the first time was funny, but then three other people have asked the same thing.

Are they seeing something I don't?

Is there anything on her that looks like Akita?

I see it...the thick forehead wrinkles and "serious" look to her face? Perhaps her coloration, too, I don't know what colors they come in.
Akitas also have stand up ears. Go google Akita and click Images and you'll see vast amounts of pics, perhaps you can tell from them why people say that.

I don't... Akitas are much heavier, thicker coats, smaller eyes. Of course an akita mixed with a husky may not be off the table.

I have a friend with a husky pit bull who looked similar as a pup. I'll try and find a photo of her.

I think she looks like a Husky/Lab mix more than an Akita. I can kind of see the resemblance, though.

Sorry these photos are so old, I haven't seen this friend and her dog for 3 years but this was a byb husky pit bull cross

My dog in the photos above, the red pit bull, is about 65 lbs to give a size idea

I can absolutely see why people would think that - Google "akita mix" - but I still think Husky/Lab or something similar is more accurate. I love Cookie! We need new pictures of her! :D

Akita come in quite a range of colors. Here's a page describing them, although unfortunately there are no pictures.

Akita Colors

And here's a page comparing American bred to Japanese bred Akita. The Japanese bred Akita pictured are examples of red coat, which is different that your dog's color, I think your dog could be called a "fawn".

I can see why people might guess your dog is part akita, but she could really be other mixes suggested in this thread. She's a pretty girl though. :)
