I think every (or at least many) breeds have different "types"...I think especially with a lot of working breeds the field-bred types tend to be different looking than the ones bred mainly for show, but both fit the standard and can do both (at least physically).
I mean some golden retrievers have TONS of hair and super thick coat and are stockier and some are much less hairy and leaner build, you can even see it in their heads and stuff...labs and spaniels are other good examples, also in many herding dogs (border collies, aussies, etc.)
