My mother in-law is gracing me with her presence tomorrow. My husbands been away on a week long buisness trip and thought it would be nice to bring her home with him. He didnt think to ask me if it was OK that she visited..grrrr. She'll be here for a full week. He's going to be in the dog house for this one. The woman is a loving, caring person but she drives me NUTS!!! She is overbearing, she snoops around the house and will go through your things, your mail, your drawers, anything that is yours she will make it her buisness too. I let her fold my clean laundry once and she was folding my thongs and then asked if I wore thongs.. duh.. who's thongs would they be?? I cant believe she'll be here tomorrow and I cant believe he didnt ask me first. Im going to rent a hotel room for a week

I feel for you. I have had my share of monster-in-law experiences. I have two, double trouble. The actual monster-in-law is not to bad, we have lived in this house for a little over 3 years and she has yet to come visit, even though she visits her brother 30 miles from our house 3 times per year. The wicked step-monster-in-law is the vicious one, she has the mouth and attitude of a jaguar. Hey, I may be OK next time she visits, Brutus breed is used to hunt them. wicked little laugh

She folds thongs? LOL I just stuff them in the drawer :)

Man...a whole week...that sucks. I'd move to a friend. But then again, I don't have a MIL because I divorced mine :D
After telling me that I wouldn't care about hubby's deployment just because I tried to be strong everytime she called and needed support. Well, now I know that according to my immediate In-laws, my JOB and DUTY as a wife would have been to drop hubby off at their house so they can be a happy family and spend time together.

I'm sorry...Didn't mean to vent...but I feel you..I don't know why MILs think that everything going on is totally their business? If I were you and I would catch my MIL snooping through my stuff, I'd say something.

Anyway...have fun ;)

If either of my mother in laws had stayed with us even once i would have had to slip out the back jack. make a little plan stan..no way i could stay with either one. My first ex's mother took it in her head that i didn't like her because i didn't eat her vegetables. Didn't help when i tried to explain i won't eat anyone's vegetables it has nothing to do with her. Then when we told her all happy with joy that we were expected she turned to the ex and said "why didn't you have a vesectomy?" and proceeded to give me the silent treatment for the next 9 months. Shouldnt speak ill of the dead but it is soooo true!

I know right.. lol

She folds thongs?
Yes. She folds EVERYTHING. She'll fold my husbands boxers for him.. lol And she has these weird habits like she'll sit there and stare at you.. for no reason.. or she'll watch your every move. I really wish I could rent a hotel room or have a plan stan.. but the only plan I have is getting my house spotless. She's excpecting to be taken out to dinner tonight.. Italian food.

I just talked to my husband on the phone and he admitted he was thinking clearly when he invited her to visit.. obviously!!

she sounds like a cat..maybe you can just imagine a fat old ugly cat sitting there. that would be seriously distressing.

Smkie.. yep a cat. And when she visits she never brings anything to do.. like a book to read or needle work so she'll just sit and stare at you.. like a cat.

My mother gets along great with Karen. I hate the way my mom tells Karen every little private moment of my childhood. She takes Karens side with every minor disagreement. I hate having those two together. I get along well with her mother but I know it bugs her that we "live in sin". I feel that she would be much happier if Karen found herself a church going type, like her other sisters have done (even though those guys are drunks and they arent as fun as I am)

You and I must have the same MIL!!!! Mine does the exact same things. She used to just walk into our house, until she startled Elite. Now she calls before coming. She is SO NOSEY. Everything yours does, mine does too. She hates the fact that I have not one, but three, dogs in the house. She calls me "anti-social" and is always asking about our finances....ugh. I have made a game out of making her feel as uncomfortable as possible.....I told her one time that if she just "dropped in", she might find her son and I engaged in other "activities"....she turned bright red, huffed, and walked away. It was great! (ok, I'm a bit sick that way, but what else is there to do? LOL)

she sounds very dominate, and extremely passive aggressive. My mom has passive aggressive down to a fine science. Requires a whole special approach on your end doesn't it? . She sounds territorial too.:(

Its not that she's dominate but she dosent speak up when she feels the need to be heard so she lets her son, daughter, and husband run over her. Hence, the reason why she is coming. Her husband and daughter were giving her a hard time at home so hubby asked if she wanted to visit and she said YES. Im making her sound like an evil witch and maybe I shouldnt do that but she drives me nuts.. lol

My MIL lived in the same town , so no long stays...thank heavens !! She used to " come calling " without announcing ... 4 PM. Told me one day when I had 2 younguns , laundry to fold, starting supper etc that I should bathe at 3 PM and be dressed and ready for company " of an afternoon "...easy to say for a woman who had a full time maid and cook , plus a cleaning woman and yard man !!!

Wow grammy.. I think I would've lost it with her. Do you remember what you said in reponse? I feel a bit cheated because I like to have things ready when company comes over for that long. Like meals thought of, extra things bought ect.. Im too busy cleaning my house to make a list and go out and buy everything so I guess I'll do that after she arrives and after we take her out to dinner. Im posting inbetween cleaning.. lol :p

Keith's grandmother reminds me so much of your mil., she is also the type that will sit there and stare. Do nothing but stare, and watch me like a hawk. Of, course hubby runs outside to escape her, leaving me stuck in the house to fend for myself. She can't eat this, and she can't drink that, and she can't do this, and she can't do that. But, she sure can give me her opinion on how we should always to go bed at the same time, never separately, how I should have his dinner planned days in advance, how I am not properly weeding my flower garden, and she never allowed her dog in the house. She doesn't like animals. Of course this woman has never had a job in her life. I usually end up getting a glass of wine and taking two Advil's to make it thru the torment of these visits. Thank god they are only about an hour long and are not frequent, but while she is here it seems an eternity. She has mentioned several times about spending a week with us. I cringe, and look at hubby. He usually has a great excuse as to how busy we are. Whew! If she stayed at our house for a week I would have to escape to a hotel to save my sanity.
