Mini Ausses/Mini Americans

Anyone heard anything about them? These are some I've been looking into a bit:

I definitely don't prefer the look of the toy ones, with the more Chi-like faces. I also prefer a bit less extreme hair -- not super poofy.

I've always heard good things about WiggleButt. http://www.wiggleb.com/ but I wonder if their dogs may be 'too much' for me, as they seem to be very sports-oriented?

At a glance, 4Clover is breeding a bitch with puppies due in June, that doesn't turn 2 until the end of November, Dynasty just had a litter where the Sire isn't 2 until August, and didn't look at WiggleButt (lol). I don't know if that's common in the breed or what, but something to think about.

Laur, if you know some breeders with well-adjusted dogs I'd love their names. I really like the idea of the minis... Just haven't met any around here I'd want. But I have zero qualms buying a dog outside of my area, to me suitability trumps all.

I've met one with a stable temperament, just a really great dog (from WB) and the rest...um..just kind of the worst aussie traits in a smaller version with strange head shapes. Then again most I've met are toys (/chihuahua mixes I'm sure)

I have no problem with the idea, there is a market for them and the one I know is a really great little guy temp/structure wise.

With just very quickly browsing their site and not reading much, her dogs are GORGEOUS imo

Yeah I like that they look like... just a small Aussie lol. So many look like mixes (probably they are?) with weird shaped heads!

There's a mini in Juno's agility for fun class and I'd totally take her home with me. Friendly, enthusiastic, hardworking little dog... I like her. If she has "quirks," she doesn't showcase them during class at all.

It was many, many years ago now, haha! If I'm remembering correctly though, he wasn't a very quick dog. Could have been training though, too.

Honestly, stick straight rears are one of my main sticking points in aussies and MAS. Most aussies I see around have terrible rear angulation.

Yeah the ones I know have broken down early (rear) or had temperament issues or both. Performance dogs. I've seen individuals online that looked and sounded great, but the ones I've met in person are generally a bit of a mess :/

I've actually noticed this too. And I'm not savvy at all in dog structure.

There were a bunch of MAS at the trial this weekend. Hmmm

They were all over the place. One dog I honestly had met before and had no idea it was a MAS. I thought it was a corgi mix. Drive was all over the place, some were very very slow. There were two that stood out to me- one was very fast (and barky) and was around 17". Rear angulation still bothered me lots and the dog seemed very heavy/clunky for the size. There was a precious little tri that was super gorgeous and well built. Medium drive but somewhat underconfident. I think she'd be a good mid level sports dog and she was young. Very pretty dog though.

I didn't see any scary temperaments in the MAS though.

I kind of left thinking shelties are much more my thing though.

Pike is a MAS. He's almost 14 weeks, and has a fantastic temperament. Just superb. Confidant without being...pushy? Obnoxious? Bounces right back from anything that does startle him. High energy, but not as high as Nola. Smart, although he's in that dumb boy puppy phase. Great tug drive, great affection drive, medium food drive.
He barks, but only during serious play with Nola. Clingy, but not up in your face 24/7 if you tell him not to. He is a tripping hazard, though.
Temper is rock solid. Calm for his energy level (if that makes sense?), very people and dog friendly but not all over them, gentle, easy to train, just an all around easy puppy. House training is going great.

Structurally, I like him overall. His coat isn't too extreme. His head is turning into a herding looking head. Stands squarely. Lithe movement. His rear legs are a little straight, but not nearly as bad as other MAS I've seen, and even a lot of Aussies.

That's awesome. Where did you get him? I would caution you against recommending the breed TOO strongly based on your experience of your 14 week old pup. But I'm glad you're enjoying him.
