I don't want to leave him for long, so here's a the short update...

I offered them a lot for him, and put it all right under their faces. They of course said yes. I stashed my camera in the woods neartheir porch and got the whole thing on video--and if the camera didn't turn off before then (I haven't watched it) I got both of them accepting my offer and saying he's now my dog.

I'm pretty exhausted. he likes his crate. He likes me. He has a tick on his stomach. He's coated me in slobber aswell as my carpet. He's flipping out over his reflection. I only have two pictures of him b/c my camera ran out of memory. Can't upload them yet.

I am having trouble with marking, however... I wasn't looking at him for half a second and he got the trashcan before I saw. My fault, lol. It's cleaned up now. But do I treat that like going potty in the house?

:yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

KEEPING him of course. You have no idea how much I cried when I put my leash on him to take him home.

Yes, you missed two, Misty. :) Just click on my username and "click see all threads this user has started." There's oneor two about Middie in there.

Dekka, the thing is that it wasn't an oops ((well, on my part it was LOL).. he's being really laidback and quite relaxed in the house. And I was pulling a ball out of a bag for him and he marked the bag, too. Urgh. I'm not entirely sure how to stop that...

Right now I am so exhausted after my day yesterday and last night/this morning I'm not feeling well. So I'm going to bed soon... Kind of worried about him overnight in the crate.

Parents are just thrilled, btw. They apparently thought I was joking the hundreds of times I'd plotted out loud about pursuing this.

Congratulations on pulling it off!

I think probably Middie is going to need some work on indoor manners, since he's been a tree dog for so long. That includes the marking thing.

Yeah, TM, I'm just not sure WHAT to do about marking exactly.... :( I feel so dumb, not knowing. It's not exactly the same as potty training I don't think, because it's not like he HAS to go.. But I'm taking him out often.

After I've fed myself (haven't yet, and I've been awake and on two walks since 6 ) and sat for a bit and rested... we are going to Linda's to use her yard, to give him a long, HARD work out and get him properly tired. (OOOH! I just taught him how to attack the bully stick. :D :D Now instead of giving me this sad look while I type he's intent upon destroying the evil thing! LOL)

So far, thanks to my ineptness, he has marked THREE times. Grrr. I need to squirt myself with a water bottle in the face every time he does it. Although the third time this morning I gave him a light tug on the leash because I at least caught him while he lifted his leg so it was only three or so drops of pee which I also cleaned up immediately.

We're doing great on-leash... just really great. I don't exactly get what the difference is. Maybe since things are so new. But before whenever I took him on walks, even after he'd run himself out off-leash he'd still drag me crazily about, and I weigh 3x what he does, so literally dragging me off my feet says something. Maybe me starting it out right by stopping the second he pulls and not letting him start again until he comes towards me and makes eye contact helped. But I'm not getting pulled at all, except by the oven where he can see his reflection. (He LOVES his reflection. Stands there and admires himself, turning around and around just to see himself.) I just stop at tugs and don't keep going till I have his attention, so he follows me around well and sticks beside me, sometimes leading the way.

He hasn't tried to chew on anything yet. That's why I'm so thrilled he's after the bully stick. I've bitter-appled anything within reach where we are sitting.. my mother's beautiful desk's legs, the vent, the cords that I also tucked away, the computer, etc.

As for me? I'm doing.. surprisingly well so far. I'm just trying to keep myself relaxed and NOT stressed out b/c that will expend way too much energy. I was feeling pretty crappy this morning before we took our first walk/potty break, but I felt a lot better after... same with the second one. He's making me feel better.

And, oh yeah, those pics... next post. I'm going to be mean and make you wait.
