I found this story today!

_____________________
rally for Gabby - Tue. Dec. 4th
Press Release: "Rally in Rushville" - "Rally For Reason" - "Justice for Jamie"; anyway you name it, it will be an event meant to roust sleepy little Indiana town Rushville, Indiana to reason. "Jamie" an animal staffer at the Rushville Pound finds her job in jeopardy after her recent rescue of four-month old mastiff puppy "Gabby". Jamie realized a gruesome discovery several days ago when she peered into the pound's refrigeration unit. Gabby, a euthanized puppy, lay under a pile of dead puppies, AND GABBY WAS ALIVE! Gabby popped her little head up from a barrel and gazed at Jamie. Gabby had suffered for FOUR agonizing days. Jamie took brave action to rescue the poor puppy and now may lose her job for taking a stand---after being ordered by her bosses (allegedly including the Rushville Mayor) that the pup should die. This is the fifth Rushville dog since August to survive euthanasia according to a recent story aired by Indianapolis television Channel 6 News.

Join animal rescuers and concerned citizens on Tuesday from throughout Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky as they rally for reason in Rushville and stand up for Jamie and Gabby. Meet on the sidewalk outside the Mayor's Office (Rushville Courthouse) on Tuesday December 4th at 5:00. The Mayor, the City Attorney, and Council will convene at 5:30 to decide Jamie's future. For now, Gabby is presumed safe, but Jamie may not be. If you care about animals and those who dedicate their lives to helping

i don't think she should be fired because if they put that dog to sleep and he lived then they didn't do something right i think they should check into this shelter

If you look more deeply into it (chase links) the whole thing is simply bizzare . . . they didn't use a scale, or a stethoscope . . . the injection was a cardiac injection . . . this was the 3rd time it happened . . . and there's a lot of small town politics involved. Its shocking, appalling, and actually made me so ill that I didn't post it here when I saw it the other night.

For the love of all that is holy, folks, if you are going to kill them can you have the basic decency to do it right . . . ?

I didn't see that it said that Jamie was the person who administered the euthanasia. So, is she being called on the carpet for the euthanasia, or for rescuing Gabby and not going ahead and killing her?

Any pup who survives for four days like that has too great a will to live to let her die.

For rescuing her, then smuggling her to safety when told to have her euthanized again, and for publicizing the scandal. She's being called onto the carpet for refusing to obey orders and for getting her boss fired.

This was not the first time this had happened . . . a 7 year old border collie had to be euthanized 3 times (she was in freezer after the first, howling) and 3 lab puppies survived the night in the freezer.

This is terrible, just sickening! To try and put them to sleep and put them in a freezer alive to suffer, freezing to death is not humaine.

Sounds like they are trying to save money by cutting back the doses,
they should be ashamed.

I couldn't agree more, and that's just wrong!
I mean, that poor Border Collie, 3 times! It's sick! Surely the damage done, and the pain felt by the dog, or whatever animal it may be, stills exists... poor animals.
I hope some authorities get onto this...

I don't think I've ever seen such appalling conduct from people who are charged with sheltering animals. The person who blew the whistle should get a medal. Everyone else gets coal for Christmas, and a nice spot in hades when they are done with their "jobs" here.
What thinking human could do such things??????

That is such a terrible thing to happen to a puppy. It's totally inhumane. But, I've found many horrible stories about supposedly humane methods of putting animals to sleep. It's happening all over the US. I think she deserves a medal not to lose her job.

I wish I hadn't clicked this open, I miss so many threads here and I just wish this had been one of them :(

I don't even like to think of the dogs that are euthanized, let alone having to go through THAT.....this place sounds like it needs to be shut down, thoroughly investigated at the very least!

It is shut down and being investigated . . . but meanwhile, no animals can be adopted. They're still there. Several resuces were going to take dogs, but now cant get to them. I presume they are being fed and that there is a moratorum on euthanasia . . . I hope. I sincerely hope.

You all can see why I didn't post this when I first found it . . . this actally gave me nightmares.
