We're cutting close since the wedding is Oct 1st. I know I should have taken care of this sooner, but I've just been running around lately like a chicken with my head cut off so I haven't gotten around to it.

I've looked up all the requirements we need though I'm still waiting for a phone call back from one of the people who answers questions people may have regarding, etc.

Both us live in NM, but have VA driver's licenses since we moved here from VA. We have to take some sort of drunk driver's education class before we can get a NM license because they require it if you are 24 and under and we are both 24. We've put that off for a little bit because of the money we have to pay for the class and for me, I'm going to have to pay to chance my name on my license any way so I'd rather wait until after the wedding to get my NM driver's license. I know they need current driver's licenses for picture ID so I'm not sure if they'll accept our VA license or not...

Plus... they ask for a social security number proof. I don't have my SS card because it disappeared when I moved to NM. I plan to get that taken care of since I need to register with the SS office when we get married any way, but in the meantime they said I can use a tax return as proof or another government document. Would a W-2 count? that has my SS# on it. I have copies of my tax returns that I filled out as well, but nothing that was sent to me regarding tax returns that would have my social on it.

Oy vey... I'm in the hyperventilating stress mode now.

ID is for Pictures only. I used a Florida Jeremy used a NC. There MAY be extra requirements if you are in state vs out of state. I know FL if you are in state you have a waiting period or a class.

I would go get your SS it takes 2 weeks go to the office and get it filed out. Yes you will have to redo it but it saves that headache took me all of 5 minutes because I went at a dead time.

A month is plenty of time to do the ss just do it tomorrow. For that you WILL need a original BC though.

Are requirements the same in every state? For us I only had a French driver's license and a passport and it was no issue. I didn't get a SSN until 3 years later.

Weird... Tanya and I were married in Maryland. I reside in PA and she had zero US status at all at the time. I used my PA Driver's License and she used her OHIP card. All we had to do was sign an affidavit saying we were not blood related and that was it....

Good luck Amber. Never forget that everything happens for a reason. Worry only about the things you have control of... Everything else will play out the way God wants it to.

Your passport was essentically your SS.

You have to have your SS and a photo id in every state I checked (GA, FL, NC, SC)

ALSO skittle make sure the price they gave you includes the price of the JOP wedding.

Ours was a extra 30 dollars for that.

We jsut went to a bank and it was free LOL

Thank you. I just looked online to find the address to the nearest SSA place so I can get my SS card part taken care of. I'm so annoyed that I lost my last one.

As far as the Driver's license... if it's just so they can compare the picture with the person, etc... then hopefully they wont care that we have VA licenses... I do need to find out if there are extra requirements though.

yikes. I hope there isn't a wait or at least much of one considering we're planned for October 1st and we actually have some family coming from out of state to be there

Oh it was a 3 day wait. Nothing major LOL Since you live there you can plan to get it a few days early and USE it on the day you want.

I was still considered a resident in florida from my lisense.

ahhh ok gotcha... hopefully I can get all this straightened out soon then. I know I'm prob stressing over nothing... but I tend to be notorious for getting myself stuck in catch 22 situations and so naturally I worry that that could happen at any moment in this one

You have plenty of time. Tomorrow call them, head to SS when they open though. Doing the lis. takes all of 10 minutes where we are went. Get it in a week in advance so you dont have that headache then your wedding day will be mostly stressfree. Just make sure the person set to do it does it AHEAD of time. LOL

I'm going to try and get everything completely taken care of this week or next... SS part I'm going to do tomorrow, but I want to go ahead and get the actual marriage license asap so that I don't have to worry about it at all. If I can get it this week than I'd rather do that. Out here you have to have both the bride and groom present to apply for the marriage license but they are only open till 5pm on weekdays and Josh works. I know he absolutely HATES taking any time off work whatsoever, but he's going to need to in order for us to get this taken care of

Oh, rather than waiting the weeks to get the card back, have them do an official print out at the time as well, it is generally accepted also.

I know Colorado is ok with mixed ID's. My husband has a California ID, mine is from Arizona - we got a Colorado marriage license the same day we applied.

County Clerk's Office

Marriage License requirements:

* Applicants must be one female and one male.
* Both applicants need to be present.
* Both need to be at least 18 years of age.
* Both need current legal pictured ID, or birth certificate.
* Both need proof of Social Security number.
* Fee is $25.00 cash only.
* Parental consent if 16 or 17 years of age.
* Court order if 15 years of age.
* Marriage licenses are issued and valid immediately.
* Marriage licenses do not expire.
* Blood tests are not required.
* Any questions please call Marriage License information line (505) 468-1243.

No problem, the very last thing you need to be stressing about before your wedding is the marriage license. Just make sure to ask them how long it's valid for (CO is valid for 30 days after applying so you have to get married and return in or get charged extra if it's over 30 days) so that it doesn't expire or anything and cause more headaches.

Congrats :)

:) I'm so glad Breeze and Gonzalez helped soothe your nerves Skittle. I am no help with the out of state license thing, but I was going to suggest what Gonzalez did about the 'official print out' at the SS office..........had to do that for my son when he lost his SS card once.

(((((((HUGS)))))))) Just keep breathing, and remember, SOMEBODY here on Chaz normally has the answers you seek grasshopper! :D

Thank you so much. I think the NM is valid for like 30-60 days or so. I'm getting married in 24 days so I'm definitely well within the valid range lol

HAHA you're totally right about people on Chaz usually having answers. I'm going to the SS office tomorrow to talk to them about my SS card and also getting a print out as well. I just mentioned to Josh that he needs to make sure that he has the right documents as well so we can get all of this taken care of soon
