Dog attack - The Chronicle-Telegram: Lorain County's News Source

I was on jury duty today,we got out of lunch and I checked my facebook which said man in henrietta in full arrest, being attacked by dogs, rescuers unable to help, dogs on loose.

First thought is OMG! I hope my dogs and horses are inside:eek: And then how horrible because we all know each other out here.

I do not know the guy personally but my mom does know the father and it is one of my friends from high schools cousins. My mom says years ago she thought he was in over his head as he would get chickens/ducks in all the time and his dogs would eat them so he would come back for more:cool:

I don't even know what to think. It will probably be all over the news and make the dogs look horrible. but this is another man with his property fenced in and dogs all over. You can not always control a pack.

I have no problems with all the dogs being shot. Our dog warden does not get involved in anything-so if he knows these dogs there is definitely history. Even if they did not all do it they likely all have issues.

I just can not fathom no one around having a gun when the ambulance arrived.

I can not even imagine. It is all around just awful. Just thoughts for their family and the poor guy and the animals involved.

I drive past here daily,I am so glad I did not see it-

Wow. It says he knew the dogs and they never showed any signs of aggression...that is really strange. Whose dogs were they?

They were the fathers dogs, but the son did live there with him so its not like they did not know him.

I talked to my mom last night and she said he has always told her they were guard dogs and there so no one would come onto the property. Then comes this story they rescues dogs which I have never heard. I honestly had not thought they had that many dogs behind that fence.

Someone said the county gave him a kennel license. Our county hands them out like candy. I think there at least needs to be requirements. I see now how big kennels can have requirements of no loose dogs out together. There is a point where it is just to much.

Someone commented on the papers site that he had a couple new dogs fighting for rank. Could have started it. But really who knows.

:( That is horrible.

I listened to the interview a little, and thought it was good they said the dogs would be tested to see if perhaps a disease provoked the attack. That shows they aren't trying to sensationalize it and claim the dogs were just out right vicious and blood thirsty or something.

Our coroner actually talked on the news about pack mentality and not blaming breeds or the poor guy, just that when dogs are in a pack they can act as one and do things they may not do alone. He said some other stuff but I think it was all said well instead of the general ban the big bad dogs.

This was just awful. Such a terrible thing to happen to that guy. And I'm so very sorry for that father. To have to live with this? The poor, poor man.

I guess pack mentality must be like mob mentality: You get stupid and start acting on your basest impulses.

But at least no one has mentioned pit bulls.

If he was trying to break out a fight, it could have been redirected at him. It sounds like that what went on, plus if there were new dogs who knows if there was a bite history there.

Unless the dogs are MINE, I will NEVER walk into a yard with a pack of dogs loose. I don't care if they belong to my best friend and I've known the dogs for 5 years.

Pack mentality is a strong, and sometimes strange, phenomenon.

And this is also why I despise those who just allow their dogs to roam free. You don't believe your dogs could ever be a problem because they are so nice and cute and then BAM....someone ends up severely bitten or even dead because of your cute little innocent pooches.

Just wanted to update this. Its all over the news.

The breeds were

BullMastiffs
Pitbulls
and
Rottweilers.
I find this very odd as not one person has said pitt. I have only seen german shepherds there and they were not even mentioned. And the neighbors kept saying they killed the ankle biters to-none of those breeds are ankle biters:confused: I wonder who determined breed on these? I know mastiff and rott mixes were mentioned. Supposedly it was the mastiff fighting for leadership. Now the areas gona be on the hunt for pits to be banned again:rolleyes:

I have no idea. I don't live as close by as you do. So I never saw the dogs myself. Those are just the breeds I keep hearing repeated.

Pit Bulls will always take the blame even if the nearest "pit bull" lives 100 miles away. The news media needs headlines to bring in a profit and nothing brings in viewers/readers than "vicious blood-thirsty pit bull kills again......".
