Went to a trial, only went today instead of all three days. We picked up a win and a Q in Steeplechase. Gezzzz I love steeplechase, it is so much fun and my dog loves it too.
We had 3 other runs, they were good, but not clean therefore NQ's, but we handled some difficult discriminations and he was nailing the weave entry.

Congratulations! Is the JRT in the picture the one you are competing?

How does steeplechase work in agility? I only know the horse version;) .

AAC steeplechase is a course with jumps, tunnels and either 12 weaves incorporated 2x, or the frame incorporated 2xwith the other obstacle not used twice also in the course.
The course time is super fast, one I was at yesterday the course time was 34 seconds for a regular dog over 16". Only I think 3 dogs I saw running regular in mini and open sizes hit the course time.

Thanks, yes the photo in my avatar is Petie the one I do most of my competing with. Actually that photo was taken a few years ago, during a Masters Steeplechase, he Q'd in that one as well.
Steeplechase only has one level Masters, but any dog at any level can compete in it. It is known as 'Balls to the Wall' of running agility!! It is fast and furious. It's Time plus faults, so if you had 40 secs to run the course and you ran it in 34 seconds but you knocked a bar, missed a contact or weave entry etc( all worth 5 faults) you would recieve the amount of faults added onto your time. Therefore usually putting you out of the money, since the course times are so short. Many folks can have a clean run, but can't make time, unless they have a pretty fast dog.
I absolutely LOVE Steeplechase, it is so much fun ( lol Petie loves it too!!)
The Steeplechase we ran yesterday was long 185 yrds, the Mini's (Petie's divsion) had 50 secs to run it, His Lordship ran it in 34.44, so his Yards Per Second was 5.37 not bad for the end of the day and our last run. Plus he was a bit archy from late calls from me lol, need to tighten up those lines and turns!!!

Take care

MP, did you run at Pickering? (k-9 Klubhouse). I know several people that were going to that trial and I have trialed there many times. But I chose the AAC trial in Kingston instead. My main reason was the one Judge often judges Regionals and/or Nationals. I figured his courses were going to be tough to challenge anyone heading to Regionals and I was right lol. On a whole the courses were tough, not many Q'd. Lots of obstacle discriminations, tight turns with plenty of opportunity for SEVERAL Off Courses lol and difficult weave entries, but then the courses would open up for long lines to build up speed........then tighten down again. Just what we needed as a prep for Regionals.
One thing I learned this weekend about running my dog..............tell him to weave 2-3 obstacles BEFORE the weaves lol, even with the tough entries. When I did that he nailed the entry everytime, if I waited our success rate was much lower lol.

Take care

Yeah we ran at K9Klubhouse. Both Shona and Kerri were awsome to help my newbie nerves and help me plan better course handling. Learned a lot from being there. Learned a lot running for 'real'. Learned a lot watching..

We didn't Q, but we took home 2 second place ribbons :) I posted about our with pics here http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53568

That's such an amazing steeplechase time! I so want to see you two run. It was insanely fast at the K9 trial and so few people were even close. Never seen anything like it. (I didn't know exactly what it was till we watched it though).

Congrats on the Q Lynn! I've officially given up on steeplechase. Brandy just isn't fast enough - LOL.
Kerri said that you and her are camping at the regionals so I'm going to pop by and say high. Is it just Petie that you're bringing?

Your lucky you got to go to a trial like that! I've taken this month and last month off, but still with practice. We have a semi private lesson for some away work on the 25th.
You run 16" right? I'm definately going to watch! My friend is runnning 16 with her cocker too.
2 more weeks to go!! :D

Brandy, by all means drop by, would love to see ya again.
Yep I am only competing with Petie, hell I have enough trouble having the energy to keep up with him let alone running more than one!! :yikes: Yes he is in 16" regular.
Although I have two younger jrts that I am training at this time, the one would compete in 10" and the other in 16".
That trial was the only one since last month, I decided to spend my money on lessons twice a week instead of entry fee's. I also have several appointments booked for Petie at his chiropractor/vet to ensure he is tiptop. I have also booked Massages for him as well. I plan to see my chiropractor too.
And I have booked apointments at Regionals for Massages before and after each of our runs each day including Friday lol. And if need be have him adjusted by the Chiropractor there as well.
I was very pleased at how he is running for me at this time, hopefully everything falls into place for Regionals. See Ya There!!!!

Take care
Lynn
