Let's say your breed wasn't AKC recognized. Would you want it to be?

JRTs are not and no I wouldn't want them to be. I really like how the JRT clubs handle registration and shows. The LHWs wanted CKC recognition. I was ok with it as it would really help them.

I prefer AKC registration just so I could compete with an intact dog. If they allowed intact dogs to compete who weren't registered, then I wouldn't care and would possibly prefer it to not be recognized.

If I lived somewhere where my dog sport venues were limited to CKC ones I might care more. But other than Obed CKC is the less popular option in the sports I am interested in.

I have plenty to do outside AKC. So if there was a national breed club to take over registration then I'd be thrilled.

A big fat NO!!!

The AKC has just recognized the boerboel and added it into their registry. The breed right now is pretty much unheard of I have a feeling that as it gets more popular because of the AKC, more BYB are going to start popping up. I am worried that eventually the AKC might sway on how the dog is being bred.

But time will only tell

It doesn't effect me right now, but I really wish being altered wasn't a requirement for canine partners. Not that I'm considering adding another dog anytime soon, but it bothers me that if I did it would have to either be an AKC recognized breed or be altered before we could compete. There are CPE trials near me, but most of the people I train with do AKC, so I would miss out on playing with friends.

Not really, though I don't compete and it doesn't really effect me in that aspect. I do think there are some pros and cons to AKC, including some I feel are more damaging than actual preservation of the breed...but I'm not going to stick my foot too far into this one.

Just leave it at 'not really.'

NO! I have seen AKC registration be the doom of many breeds, I was against the JRT getting recognized and I am against the MAS as well. I agree closed stud books are the beginning of the end.
