Something in my house stinks, and I CANNOT for the life of me figure it out.

It smells kind of like dirty catbox, but my husband just completely changed all the cat litter out yesterday. The snake tubs are clean. There is nothing sitting out in the kitchen. I ran the garbage disposal. I emptied all the trash. The filter in the air system is brand new (2 weeks old, tops). I vacuumed. I've been running laundry.

WHAT AM I MISSING????

Jon says he doesn't smell anything, but HE'S WRONG! IT STINKS! AAAAURRRGH!!!!

Alright, it probably doesn't really stink as much as I think it does, what with my pregnancy nose and all. However, it is REALLY bothering me right now, whether or not it's real or imaginary.

I feel like a crazy person right now. :lol-sign:

Have you smelled the litter boxes themselves? If he did not scrub it down, that could be the issue. I find that the litter boxes in the ferrets cages can really hold onto the odours unless I scrub them down every couple months. (And that is with being fed high-quality grain free cat food)

Did your cat maybe go outside the litterbox somewhere? Whenever I smell something that my husband doesn't I'll just walk around the house sniffing the air until I find where it's strongest and I can usually pin it down there. I just had to scrub down an entire room downstairs because one of my cats is having issues and not always using his box.. But I found it and got rid of the smell! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I am 99% positive it's not the cats having any issues outside the box... it just doesn't smell like poop or pee... it's the dirty sand smell.

I'm actually wondering if it's the carpet down the hallway to the laundry room (where the catbox is), and that it's just holding the odor from back when the catbox DID get away from us... I might have to call in the carpet cleaners to take care of it.

I was gonna say check the vents! But I guess the problem is solved!
We actually just checked the vents when we replaced all the filters. I was prepared to do it all AGAIN, but I think we've found it.

Those shoes are now in the trash (ew ew ew) and I am setting up an air freshener under the shoe rack to trap odors from any other offending footwear.
