Some people raise their eyebrows at the thought of a dog being their best friend and some people smile and say their dog is definitely something of a best friend. What do you think?

I have to think a bit how I want to explain my answer. I'm not to good or quick with words today.

I think the easiest way to put it would be "yes". :)

There's no way to describe the bond I have with Lizzie.

Hmmm...I honestly consider them more as family members than friends. But I'm definitally closer to them than I am my human friends.

Without a doubt, they are my very best and most loyal friends. Aside from my son, I know of no other being that I trust more.

I'm not sure about best friends, but my sheltie sure is my family. She has alot of energy and takes up alot of time, but she makes me smile and we are learning together.

I'd have more dogs to to love if I could. People at work think I'm nuts for all I do for my dog....ie chiropractor, new toys, numerous obedience classes.

I consider my dogs relatives. I really think we're genetically connected sometimes. LOL.

Yes....they are my best buds in the whole world except my children. In fact, they're not less or more, just different. I trust them and they trust me to keep them safe from harm.

They love me, comfort me, listen to my chatter, never judge, always happy to see me, AND they NEVER fail to cheer me up when I am down given the chance.............I guess I would consider that a best friend :)

Yes. Absolutely. I have no doubt that Hannah would give her life to save mine, and in turn, I would do the same for her. Corvus, although new to the family, is following in Hannah's footsteps. I love them, they love me. I trust them, they trust me. I can come home from a crappy day and spill my guts to them and they make me laugh or smile with one simple gesture. Yes, definitely.....they are my best friends.

Although I consider them family, you could say they are my best friends.

They NEVER lie, cheat, backstab. They are ALWAYS there for you. You can tell them everything and anything and know that it is for their ears only.

I don't think it's possible to find a human equivalent.

I really like that quality too. Nothin' worse than a gossip. And these dogs really know how to keep their mouths shut. Gotta love 'em.

Tango was. She and I had an incredible, completely unexplainable bond with eachother. Never will I have a friend like her again, either human or dog.

I'm not sure how I'd describe Dance though. I'd definitely call her a friend, but it's a different sort of "friendship" I guess.

THey are the bestest of best friends, my family, my hearts. I can't imagine a life without them.

My best friend is my son, and the dogs are second. :D

I swear if I wanted to parade around a city nude psychoticlly screaming someone just stole my clothes and be happy about it, my dogs would be all for it.

Sarama is family. I don't really have a best friend. My finace is close, but he's sort have got another role, if you know what I mean. Sarama is . . . wel, its a hard relationship to explain. Its sort of like a child, sort of like a friend, sort of like a student. But we are very close. I never had siblings, but I feel that my relationship to my dog is kind of like that to my younger cousins . . . just closer, since she lives with me.

No they are not my best friends, they are my dogs.
That doesn't mean they are not important to me. I love them and they are more important then most human friend, but the relationship is completely different.
I wouldn't want to miss them, but they can't make up for human friends either. I need both to be happy.

Hum, this is a toughie.

They are all my family no doubt about it, and sometimes I wish they were the only ones I lived with, because some times, to be honest, humans just tick me off!

But, I do have a human best friend, and she's great, and if I was asked to choose my dogs or her, I couldn't do it. If I had to save one from a burning building, I'd run in the building and stay there... Cuase there is just no way I could choose my dogs over my best friend, or my best friend over my dogs..

So, yes, in a way, my dogs are my best friends, but they are my best dog friends, while I do have a best human friend, and I COULD NOT choose one over the other....

I think I'm with saffie on this one. He's a dog, and I'm not sure it's totally healthy to anthropomorphize an animal to that degree. I like him, though, and I'm glad we have him. That's just my opinion.

i'm with saffie, too. i love my dogs, and they are my dogs and that relationship is special and irreplaceable, but it's different than "friend" or even "family". i don't think i can compare it fairly with my friendships with humans. it's not better or worse, it's just different.
