I still see alot of people that are still texting and driving even if it is now banned.

Nothing is more nerve racking when you see an on coming traffic who is somewhat over the center line, tires nearly touching your side of the lane.

I'm having to drive far right to avoid this idiot. i really hope he does not hit and kill a family one day!.

The law won't change anything... education is the only thing that will make an impact. The drunk driving issue was the same way.

I am the most cautious driver alive and I'm terrified of driving any where if I don't know where I'm going/have driven it before with someone. Every day I see people texting and driving. Whatever just happened on your phone is not important. If it's so **** important, pull over to text your bff wut ur doin Saturday. I really hope no one ever hits me because they're dinking around on their phone.

No, its not effective. Its nearly impossible to enforce. Moreover, its rather complicated what exactly counts . . . I do not text in a moving vehicle. On the other hand, I've looked at messages, and send really short ones, while stopped at a light or mired in unmoving traffic. Am I "texting and driving"? Well, yes . . . and it probably legally counts, too, but I'm not likely to stop doing it. . . and I've also navigated using a map on my phone . . . does that count? How do you tell if I'm texting or looking at my map?

Frankly, people are idiots, and they will keep driving recklessly while distracted, particularly in a country where you are often expected to be in contact any minute and people spend hours in their cars. You can pass all the laws you like, and stupid people will still be stupid.

If a person can't drive with ANY distractions, a person can't drive. What about people who put make up on while driving or change the channel on the radio if they take their eyes off the road for a second. What about glancing at hand written directions to somewhere or adjusting some controls on the car, checking the temperature gauge, adjusting the defroster or reading signs along the road? Then there's talking to the person in the passenger seat, glancing for a second their way? Are they going to make laws that you can't do any of those particular things? I think looking away from the road for more than a split of a second is dangerous. It doesn't matter what of many, many activities or functions one is doing other than driving. Why they pick texting and not the multitude of things people do to distract them, I don't know. And arresting people for talking on the cell phone is absurd. It's not different from talking to a passenger in the car or singing along with the radio. You're distracted either way. Are they going to ban talking to people in your car next? I think if a person is driving erratically or recklessly, they should be pulled over and ticketed. Period. And not pick out individual activities to punish. I know people, myself included who can drive just fine talking on the cell phone. My concentration, the dominant focus is always on my driving. If the road is too hectic, I'll tell the person I'll check back later. They should just stick to the law already in place that to drive recklessly gets you in trouble. If someone isn't driving recklessly, then they must be driving all right. Living near a big city and even in a fairly big city, I see every day someone doing something terribly stupid and reckless. And they're not texting or talking on the cell phone. Some people shouldn't be on the road at all.

I sometimes wish all cars had something to disable cell phones except calls to 911. I see so many people driving weird and I can tell right away they are talking on their phone.
My youngest daughters bf just lost his license for 60 days for talking on his cell phone while driving. I hope it taught both of them a lesson.
