Saw a part about a man who stayed in an abandoned hospital, promising people he'd care for their pets and never leave them behind. Thanks to him the pets were reunited with their owners - when they don't have anything else, at least they have a little fuzzy ball of fur to cry to. :(

If I were forced to abandon my animals I don't think I'd ever be able to expiate the guilt. That man performed a wonderful, amazing, compassionate and heroic service.

When I saw it I was so touched. He risked his life (he had no food or water and he was in the middle of a hurricane) to care for people's pets....he is so wonderful.

I would never, ever leave the girls. The first thing I would do would be grab them. They are my girls and I am NOT leaving them.

I'm afraid I'd have to tell the officials that if the animals had to stay, I was staying . . . and my blood and the blood of every animal lost in the storm would be on their heads.

It just tore me up to hear about the grooming salon where they found the animals in their kennels. Some of the ones on the top survived by treading water, but the ones in the bottm cages had no chance whatsoever. What kind of person leaves animals like that????

omg....i didn't hear about the grooming salon. what a horrific death. hopefully there we will begin to hear more good stories than bad. unfortunately...the worst is probably yet to come. once they get the majority of the water out there is no telling what they will find. sad.

I agree that this man is a godsend to those pets BUT something we have to realize here... These people aren't monsters because they left their animals behind nor are the people who made them leave them behind. I know you all love your dogs and i love my dog too BUT you were not in that situation. If it was your life and your kids lives vs your pets life I think you would do what is best for your family. it hurts and it sucks that it has to happen but people come first. They needed to make as much room as possible on any vehicle they were using to evacuate people. if they were to take up that room with peoples pets and leaving others sitting on the sidelines to die there would be an even bigger uproar then there is right now. People that just left them in cages to die, yeah those are horrible people. At least give the animal a fighting chance. Again this quote comes to mind and fits this topic "it is easy to talk about the right thing to do when you aren't the one that has to do it" I think you would all feel very differently if you were one of those people trying to save their families.

Ah, but you see, that's where I beg to differ. I don't place a higher value on one life than another. My personal choice, and no, I don't have children - in which case I would send them on - would always be to stay or go only with my animals. I couldn't live with myself doing anything else. That's not to condemn someone who chooses diffferently - everyone has to live - or die - with their own choices and make the choices they can live with. Dying isn't the worst thing that can happen, after all.

I have to say I live in hurricane country in texas. And if you have a major hurricane you get the hell out. These people had enough time to get out and save their childrens' lives, and their animals lives, they were being irresponsible and hardheaded They put them in jeopardy. I know some were financially or physically unable. The mayor should have evacuated them at the start. It should not come down to the choice of your animals or family, that is why we are supposed to have this thing called common sense. Because of the obstinace and irresponsible attitudes many lives human and animal have been lost. If it came down to where I was trapped I would make sure my son was somewhere safe, and I would stay with my animals or take the boat with my animals to somewhere safe. I love them all.

I do not have children also and I would not leave Teddy behind. They did afterall have 5 days to evacuate. i would have done so when I had the chance to get in my car and go with my dog and all. Or walk or something. However, if the state were to allow room for pets in place of room for people that would be unacceptable. People are already angry enough because the state didn't make enough of an effort to get everyone out could you imagine if the same thing happened and more people were left behind because people were bringing their pets. Fearing for your life can make you do some crazy things and make desperate decisions.

Although I did see them loading a dog into the basket they bring people up in for helicopters. the owner got in and then they picked up the dog and put the dog in with the owner. it was a small dog though.
