If you got a dog based purely on looks, and temperament/exercise/size/etc. wasn't a factor, what would you get?

I would probably get an Ibizan hound. I love those beauties! Absolutely gorgeous and very statuesque.

How about you?

They are pretty cute. Hubby and I do the earthdog/ lure coursing at the Norfolk/Norwich terrier day. Don't think I would want them..but there are very adorable lol

With nothing else being a factor, a Chinese Crested ~ hairless.
Second would be a pug.
Afghan as well, but there are other factors involved that make me want an afghan. Besides, I would probably keep the afghan shaved, because that is just wayyyyy too much brushing, so in that case, I'm not going for looks after all ;)

border collie.

I'll probably never get one, though, I don't want a dog that's smarter than me. :)

This is a hard question! It's difficult to put aside grooming, health problems, as well as temperment!

Looks alone?

I would still have a dobe because I LOVE how they look and then it would have to be a Dane and/or Pharaoh hound.

Seeing pics of Xerxes just made me love the look of them even more! I miss him.........wonder where he's gotten to lately??

SIGHTHOUNDS. Beezers, Pharaohs, Greys, Whippets, Afghans.. Gorgeous. Also love the look of well-bred APBTs.

With the exception of Whippets, though, they're all a pretty poor match for me and it's hard ot put that aside.

My favorite "practical" breeds looks-wise are rough-coated BCs, working line Aussies, red Doberman Pinschers, Cane Corso and most LGD, even though they usually have way too much hair for me. ;)

I'd get an APBT! I've always liked their strong look and sweet temperament. In reality, I probably won't ever have one because I want multiple dogs, so the DA wouldn't work with my situation. I also like the look of Dogo Argentinos and those Cane Coros at Fauquier SPCA looked so beautiful, but I doubt I could handle a mastiff like a corso.

Looks alone eh? Wow that's hard. I find a LOT of dogs absolutley stunning but could never imagine having one/living with them/handling them.

I'd have to say my favourite of the sighthounds is the Saluki. Silver and black markings would be perfect please ;)

I also love Rhodesian ridgebacks, they're so... impressive. I still remember the first time I met one, I was so taken by him. Magnificent dog.

I love how noble dobes look, statuesque, and stately.

I'm also a HUGE fan of the look of setters. Irish, English, it doesn't matter. They're beautiful. But since I'm partial to spotted dogs, a black and white spotted english would be top of my list.

And of course, my favourite little dog in looks, a blue merle, longhaired dachshund.

Oh geez where to begin. So many of my favorite looking dogs are high-energy and that guarantees I'll never be able to own one.

Most of the pointer group. Viszlas, weims, GSPs english pointers..... God I love how they look and I love their personalities too for the most part, but way too much boingboing for me, and too needy.

I also love Great Danes (natural ears, all the way), dobies (love fawn and red!), also I really like natural ears on dobies--no offense to anyone who has a cropped one. I think pharaoh hounds are gorgeous, and rhodesian ridgebacks--I've always wanted one and may some day, who knows. And for some reason I find Chinese Cresteds (the hairless ones, the powerpuffs don't do it as much for me) really charming. I'm normally not in to small dogs, but I think cresteds are adorable. The only ones of that group I could ever see myself owning would be a RR or dane, but honestly my house is just not big enough. Normally I tell people that house size shouldn't dictate dog size, but with the giant breeds....I think I'd need a bigger house!
