If you can spare a few words I'd really appreciate it.

You guys are great. :) It means a lot to me that there's a community out there where all I have to do is ask...and I shall receive! And in such a heartfelt way.

It speaks volumes about the people in this community that I haven't had a dog since November of last year and was so distraught over that situation that I didn't want to have anything to do with dogs or puppies for a very, very, very long time. But I've come to the Fire Hydrant every single day since then because I didn't want to miss out on keeping up with all the great people I met here in the few months that I had my pup. It's still too sore for me to visit other dog-related parts of the forum, but I wouldn't give you guys up for anything. :)

In other news, this time tomorrow I'll be probably somewhere over Greenland and about 4 hours from landing in my home country (though another two flights from "home"). Just powering through this last day, trying to take care of myself, not get too frazzled. I'm afraid I don't have much left over for my husband. He's of course very upset that I'm leaving and while I can try to be there for him and try my hardest to be compassionate towards his feelings...I'm in a very "hunker down and look after your own self" headspace.

I look forward to touching down in Toronto and settling into the hotel for the night. A wonderful, wonderful woman who runs a cat kennel in Toronto has offered to purchase a cheap litterbox and some litter and a water dish for Moby and drop them off at the hotel for when we arrive. She said she'll leave the receipt and I can just call her when I get home and pay her with my credit card number. How ultra-sweet is that? So I'll get Moby settled in (he will be FRAZZLED), have a shower and then enjoy one of those 12$ beers in the lounge at the hotel.

Then the next morning (check-in at 5am!) we're off to Vancouver and then I'll basically be on my home turf. My dad works at the airport in Vancouver so as long as I get to Vancouver in one piece I'll be safe and sound from there. Then a quick flight over to Vancouver Island and I'll be home less than 5 minutes from leaving the airport.

Good luck on your trip this weekend, and on your new beginning!

I was in your shoes almost exactly 4 years ago (granted, without the transatlantic trip), and while it was sad and lonely for a little while, now, I can say that I've never been happier! I actually hadn't responded to your thread yet, because I couldn't believe how closely you were describing what I went through, and I guess it hit a little too close to home!

Again, good luck, and my PM box is open if you ever want to chat or just vent!

After having to start over after 21 years of marriage, all I can say is take one day at a time. Don't do anything drastic and try to do a few special things for yourself. Life does go on and things will get better. It's been 7 years since I got divorced and I'm remarried to a great guy.
