Jeez guys. I feel goofy for more than likely being the only one who thought of a different kind of roach.

Shouldn't the landlord be taking care of this?

Ok, I've gotten used to seeing a couple little baby ones here and there, usually not an issue. Yet today I've had to squish two rather large sized ones (this last one just ran out from under my *keyboard*)and the apartment was supposedly "exterminated" last week!   My apartment is clean! Why the EFF do I have giant roaches running around?!??!?! GROOOOSSSS!!! Guess I'm going to have to go around and reapply Borax around the floor boards, guess the vaccuming I did the other day took out the "circle of power"
one = a million in a short period of time. GEt some muleteam borax at the grocery store put it everywhere, behind the stove and fridge, under the shelf paper, down the vents, go around every crack and corner..if there is a deep crack mix it with dish soap and ooze it down in there. REapply after you vacuum and take a broom and work it in good. Under your sofa cushions, behind your toilet, under your sink in the bathroom and kitchen (they need your water too) and drop some down the drain each night in the kitchen as well. One time when it pays to be anal about everywhere. That will get rid of them and keep them gone.

Zoom, before we bought this house... we rented a house. The day we went to go look at the rental house I saw a bug scurry across the book shelf in front of the fireplace. The landlord reached over and squashed it with his thumb. I didn't think anymore about it.

We moved in that weekend and my sister flew in from out of state to visit and help us move. That night I felt something crawl across my hand in the bed. I freaked because I thought it was a spider.

I flipped the light on and all of a sudden I saw a ton of little critters scurring EVERYWHERE :yikes: They were on the ceilings, the walls... the furniture.. it was sooooo GROSS!!

My sister and I discovered they didn't like the lights. So, we each had a shoe in our hand and one person kept flicking the light off long enough for them to all come out and then when the light went on we started smashing them with the shoes and TJ had a broom he was smashing them on the ceiling with.

It was like a never ending amount of bugs. I had no idea what they were. I had never seen a bug like them before. We called the landlord that morning and found out they had a roach infestation and had sprayed. I told him he had to take care of this immediately or we wanted our money back that we were moving out.

It took several times of them coming out to spray before we got rid of them. They can get into your appliances, electronics, walls.... under the fridge and stove..etc.

Make sure you don't leave any food or garbage out anywhere. And insist on your landlord getting a contract with a bug sprayer for a few months until you know they're completely gone.

When we lived in Boston we had a big roach problem in our apartment. They would come spray and it did nothing. Then we got our little cat, Nubbin. It turned out she thought roaches were a delicious, crunchy snack. It was disgusting listenenig to her chomp on them all night, but within a week they were gone, never to returm.

I always thought thay after a while the remaning roaches fled, and told all their friends, "You want to stay away from #3F, there's a horrible roach eating monster up there." The only bad thing was that Nubby-nubs was a very affectionate cat, and liked to give us scratchy kisses. Eww.

You may want to consider callin in the experts. They say if you see one their are 10,000 you don't see. Roaches are survivalist, there is very little that can kill them....and once you have them oh boy can it be a &^%$# to get rid of them.
I will never forget my neighbor, when I was a kid, who bough a TV (the big sit on the floor kind) at a yard sale. Unfortunately it was infested and soon his house was infested....getting rid of the roaches was nearly impossible but then that was over 25 years ago and I am sure that there have been advancements since then.
Good luck!...and you have my sympathies.

Ewwwww Roaches! We lived down in the deep south for a few years and it didn't matter how clean you were, you were gonna get 'em sooner or later. Gross!
One time we caught one and decided to torture it to death. The whole family gathered around to watch. We put it in the microwave for 5 minutes on high. We expected (and even WANTED) to see guts exploding. We waited to celebrate the nasty creature's demise. That freakin' thing hunkered down, and when the micro turned off, it just started crawling around again!! No kidding, totally true story!
It was at that moment I realized....in the event of a total nuclear holocaust, the next creatures to evolve won't look like apes, they will look like roaches! **shudders**

That sucks! We have haven't had any roaches inside this place yet, but we saw a huge one in the garage the other day. All the bugs have been coming in lately, probably because things are starting to cool off a bit.

Ew! I don't know if you know of anybody said it before, but don't step on them! You'll have the eggs under your shoe and will carry more and more into your apartment! Did you make some fire under the housing office's @ss so they finally do something?

They're not open again until Monday and convienently, the phone lines are "down" this weekend so you couldn't call anyway. I've already got the Borax, I bought that the day I moved in, just in case...I think I'm just fer-shlucked here, because I'm pretty sure that while I might get my immediate apartment...I live in a completely adjoined complex...somebody's roaches somewhere are going to at least pass by my place...the best I can do is put up a "do not disturb" sign.

I'm still telling them that I'm deducting $20 bucks off my rent for each roach I see though.

That's a good policy, Zoom.. see if you can get a few other people in the complex to do it, as well. That will convicne them to clean their messes up.

To then which I mustered up the courage to grab some tissue and squish them into obliviation!

Stop sending them over here Zoomers!

Ya, they call them that in AZ too........some of them are big enough to be a bouncer at a biker bar!
Angela! You are good. That's too funny.

Oh poor Zoom. That is horrible. Yes, the health dept. should get after them if they don't do something about it pronto. I feel for ya. Creepy!

The truth is, if you live in an apartment, it's very hard to not have roaches. You can be the cleanest person on earth and still get them. I doubt the apt people will do anything but spray. Back in the day when we were renting, we would keep getting them. They are disgusting and it's frustrating to try and get rid of them. When we moved to our 1st house we owned, of course, there were roaches hidden in things we brought with us. Luckily we never got an infestation, we had an exterminator come in asap and killed them. They got in appliances. For some reason they like electronics.

I saw an episode of "Dirty Jobs" where they were with an exterminator, and they had to de-roach this horrible horrible house. Hundreds of thousands of them, everywhere- open a drawer and they were all over, stuff like that. Makes your skin crawl!

My husband would like to add that airsoft guns make roaches explode in a very satisfying way. Also, it is fun to impale them with blow darts (he's sharing childhood memories).

Hey Zoom - I don't know the law where you live, but in Indiana, you can NOT take money off of your rent for a problem in your apartment. If you do, you will likely end up having to pay the money anyway, on top of a ton of late fees.

What you CAN do is pay an exterminator and then submit the bill to your landlord for reimbursement and if they won't pay you back, sue them in small claims court.

Well, since the apartment isn't returning my phone calls, when my exterminator friend offered to come up and spray, I quickly took him up on his offer! He said he mixed the stuff stronger that usual too and boy was he thorough! THAT'S the type of spraying I'd like to see...and he did my neighbor's place on the left of me as well. So any potential fleas that might have been hiding, they're long gone now. :)

We're just going to have him come in every so often and spray, since A) it's free and B)we know he's doing a good job. He's letting the complex know he's doing it too since he's heard so many complaints about bugs lately. I'm going to nab some glue traps too, either from him or from the Orkin man at work and put those down in strategic placings.
