When I was in school, I never understood why, when 28 out of 30 students stood for our national anthem, there were always a couple who decided that they shouldn't. It's 2 minutes out of your morning... it certainly won't hurt you. Personally, I found it a little pathetic when people wouldn't stand. There are very few reasons, in my opinion, as to why you shouldn't stand during such an event... and your reasoning is a little strange. I wouldn't buy it at all if I was a teacher, and I too would'be probably asked you to leave just because sitting while everyone else stands seems a pretty ignorant thing to do. Who cares whether you see the point or not? That doesn't matter. It's not like they're asking you to do something that is going to harm you.

Well I just don't feel like standing up, I don't see the point. So you can call it defiance. I do ride the bus, I get a ride down to the bus stop and sit in the car till the bus arrives. I am tired in the morning but after moving around and talking throughout the day I wake up and am able to play on my xbox 360. Also please lets not make assumptions that I am fat because I eat unhealthy food. I have been losing weight by cutting back on snacks and pop and taking my dog for walks daily, I find it very rude that you assume I am tired because I am fat.

I'm waiting for it as well because even though this was the first post I have seen by him, based on his post I am sure his response will be childish and immature. But it will be surprising if he acts mature.

Eddie, its both. ;)

WOW. You get a ride to the bus stop? How far could it possibly be? After moving around during the day you start to wake up? Perhaps if you started moving around right after you get out of bed you wouldnt' need so long to wake up. Get the blood flowing.

Not to sound like the typical "in my day" stories but I always walked to the bus stop and stood outside to wait... fresh air... does a body good. More than once I missed the bus and instead of just saying screw it and staying home I got my butt in gear and took the Ankle Express to school... which took about an hour and a half.

I think you need a good knock on the head. That is what i would do to my 16yr old son if he ever tired that crap with me or anyone else. Do you have even the slightest idea how mch blood has spilled for this country. My daddy was a WWII vet. I came home one time wear a jacket that I had the american flag pianted on the back. I had called the VFW asked which way was appropreate for the flag to face stars on the right or left so all was done showing my respect. My dad got so mad at me. He said that it was disrespectfull to wear the flag on anything that had to be washed or would not be handle correctly. I felt horrible I did it to honor my dad and I hurt him instead. I asked the VFW again what I should do becasue my dad didn't like it they said becasue it wasn't the real flag I could burn it so I did.

Young people today have no respect for anyone or anything. They think that the world is theirs they can do what ever they want. Sorry to tell you this but it isn't. Someday you might have to fight for this country and then maybe you will want respect and there will be no one to give it to you. Think about while you stand in the hallway. I think if you were in my class I would make you write a paper on America and what a good citizen does for their country.

I stand several times a day going to class to class and at work. Why don't you grow up and instead of degrading yourself to childless arguments and try to teach and lead the young?
Speaking of childish arguments...

Because I am tired in the morning and don't have the energy to stand. No matter how early I go to bed I still feel tired in the morning.

Ankle express! That's awesome. LOL I've never heard that one before :rofl1:

I used to have to walk to my bus stops as well... the bus picked us up at 6:15am for high school. I would have to leave my house at 5'something to make it to the bus stop.

If the Xbox made you stand and say the pledge before you could play it, would you do it? Thank about that ;) I bet the answer is yes, lol.

I knew some people that did it for religious reasons. They are politically neutral so they don't go to war or get themselves involved in any way. Maybe alot are to embarrased to admit it but don't stand because their parents would find out.......just another perspective on it.

If you DO support your country and are proud of it, STAND UP! And I thought my husband was lazy, lol! :D

there may not be a rule saying you have to stand for the pledge...however there is probably a rule about following the directives of a person in authority. THAT is likely what got you sent out. If you have an issue the adult thing to do is address it outside of class with a talk to the teacher about your reasons and your discomfort with standing. Include the Principal if you feel you will be blown off.

That is how I would handle it...not by simply openly defying an authority figure in full view of my peers,a nd thus undermining the autority of said figure.
I haven't gone through this whole thing yet, but this struck me as going right to the heart of it.

The only thing I can see that Gina missed is that the teacher was abusing his/her authority, thus forfeiting it.

To stand or not to stand is a personal, ideological choice, and forcing that is coercion at the least.
