I just had to post this somewhere because it really makes my heart soar to hear this kind of thing and I'm so proud of her.
This morning when I dropped her off at her Pre K summer camp I hung around for a bit and chatted with her teacher as I always do. I don't know how it came up but she started telling me about a boy in the preschool class. He is a little different than the other kids. A bit hyperactive, highstrung, can't really control his body and his actions and he just gets really ramped up and can be a bit out of control. The other kids have started to kind of shun him because he frustrates them and they just don't know how to relate to him.... except for Hannah.
Her teacher was saying that this little boy absolutely ADORES Hannah and Hannah adores him. Whenever they have common play time (when all the age groups get together to play) Hannah will always go to him and play with him when no one else will and when he starts to get a little too ramped up or upset she said that Hannah just goes over and takes his hand and calms him down like no one else can. She said "I dont' know what it is but he can be wound up tight as a top and ready to explode and Hannah can calm him down and bring him back down to a normal level"
She was saying that one day on one of their field trips they sat together on the bus and they had a little garbage can with one of those lids that can spin all the way around. Hannah hit the lid and it spun around and the boy thought it was great and wanted to try. he tried and it didn't work and he was getting upset so Hannah would calm him down and show him again. he tried again and couldn't do it and Hannah kept him calm and explained how she did it and by the end of the ride he learned how to spin the lid and didn't have a meltdown when he was struggling because Hannah kept him calm and was patient with him in teaching him this new trick.
Her teacher said she does the same with a little boy in her class too that doesn't fit in so well with the other kids and she always plays with him so he isn't playing by himself.
I asked the names of the two boys and when she told me I recognized those names immediately. hannah ALWAYS talks about them and when she plays school or other imagination games her imaginary friends/students are always these two boys lol.
I'm just constantly amazed at what a gentle and loving and compassionate soul she has. I love that little girl so much.
