FYI, I got one from PoochyCouture and the inscription wore off within a month... not cool!
This is why you need to order brass fetching tags.:D

The thickness of Fetching Tags is the reason why I buy them.
Well, not the ONLY reason, but you know, it's one of the main reasons.
You cannot beat the durability of them. Even Ophie's brass tag. That thing is DOUBLE the thickness of the regular Fetching tags (and that's REALLY thick).
But I'm always on the look for secondary tags so I can stress the importance of returning my dogs to me if they ever were to get lost.
But I need durable, thick dog tags because when my pups play, they will chew on each others' tags. A thin brass tag would be a goner here in a matter of days.

I loooove the look of the fetching tags - especially the brass ones - but they just look too bulky and heavy for my dogs. :(

They're really not too bad. Of course, this isn't the brass, but Auggie has their medium one:

It is sort of big but I like it because of that, because you can see it under his fur. They're definitely not heavy though.

Here's Auggie's tag next to his state-issue rabies tag, too, for a size comparison:

Not really a heck of a lot larger than the state rabies tag. I just flipped his tags over and put the rabies tag on top of it and the fetching tag is maybe a quarter of an inch at the bottom larger? Their small size would probably be the same size as his rabies tag. So I guess they're really not that big, they just somehow seem like it!

ETA: OMG. Look. at. this one.
*flails*

I think the size is what bothers me the most - my dogs wear very small tags when they wear them at all - i don't like the whole dangly look. I'd also be afraid of the dogs smacking each other in the mouth with a big dangly tag, they play dirty and often have their mouths close to each others' necks.

You wouldn't have to worry about them hurting each other with the aluminum tags, but I will admit the brass ARE heavier.
Ophie's is pretty small, I think.
She's maybe 40 lbs. Her tag may look bigger because I hang it off of a snap.

I can get actual measurements for you, if you'd like.:D

I've had an aluminum tag on my Libby for like, 5 years now (or 6) it is a heart-shaped one that is painted or is just the color red, not sure which, I can read it, it's all fine - it does have one dent on it and that's about it. If she got lost, you could read it still.
It came from Wal-mart, that little tag-making machine.
Less than $10.00, I think we paid like $6.00 for it.

Yeah, Lucy's tag is just the $3 tag they made us at the animal shelter when we adopted her. The pink is fading a bit from rubbing the other tags, but the front is still totally legible. It's paper thin too, and isn't chipped or dented or anything.

I definitely don't think there's any need to order heavier tags for functionality--it's just for cuteness!

With my two pups, though, when they play they chew on each others' tags.
Thin aluminum tags would last about 2 days, if that, in my house.:lol-sign:

Yeah, Auggie has some of those cheapie tags too. I have one on his harness and one that used to be on his collar. He's almost five and they stood up to time just fine... but Auggie doesn't wear his in the house and he runs naked when we do agility and stuff, so it doesn't take a lot of abuse. For somebody that has dogs that wear their tags a lot, I can see where they'd get more wear and tear and need to be higher quality!

Auggie didn't need a Fetching Tag... I just wanted one. =P

Oh, I like them, I just can't afford them...I mean, I need the $$ for more practical shtuffs...
I got our Luke one and then felt guilty I paid so much for it. If I didn't have to worry about budgeting I'd have more!

Well, I went ahead and order from Poochy Couture anyway. I ordered the bar tag for Luke. She said she'd do extra deep stamping for me.
I told her if I liked it (if it lasts), I'll be ordering the copper bar for Ophie.

It was only $12.

I got this one for Jackson a few months ago:
Etsy Transaction - The McKinley Tag

I'm an idiot for not paying attention to size of tag, but it is a 3/4" tag. When I got it, I was shocked at how small it was! It's like the size of a penny, maybe a tiny bit bigger. Jackson is a small dog, 15lbs, but I did not realize until after the fact that I always had him in 1" tags. So it was weird to me at first... but he's been wearing it for the last month on his Halloween collar and I think I like the smaller size but am not really sure.

I don't know. I'll have to take pictures for comparison but I can't decide if his next tag is going to be his old 1" or if that is too big for a 15lb dog.

This was him in the 1" tag.

I don't think that is too big for a small dog.:D

Fetching tags are always probably going to be my main dog tags, I was just looking for secondary tags.

Once my two grow up and HOPEFULLY stop chewing on each others' tags, I won't have to be so picky about what I put on them.

Though, I will warn that thin brass scratches and gets beat up FAST.

Those are really, really cool! It'd be awesome to get one for every dog here ('rents dogs). Let me know how they hold up - the shepherds are kind of rough on tags, too. What is it about them that makes them go NOM on tags? You'd think it'd hurt their teeth :rofl1:

Well, Luke noms on Ophie's tag more than Ophie noms on Luke's tag.
I think it boils down to Luke's lack of brains? And that he's just a big dopey (but ADORABLE) boy.:rofl1:
