Okay so I complain about the misidentification a lot but this one was new. I was walking Mia and Summer, and this guy asked if my dogs were chihuahuas, I said no, told him they were papillons. A few sentences into the conversation later he said:

"So they're just basically glorified chihuahuas."

It's a new one at least. :lol-sign:

I know some LC chis and Papillons look kinda alike
but people really don't understand the personality difference, it really is night and day

case and point, its 2 in the afternoon. Romeo is STILL asleep lol

Personally, I dont think, for example, that Romeo and Mia look anything alike

Mias got the ears and Romeo has his freak flag lol

LOL... what?

Did you ask him if he was just a glorified excuse for a man?

I was just like... what do I say to that? I just said 'Not really."

Mine are all still asleep too. Well Nard and Beau aren't, but Mia is. :yikes:

I think they look kind of alike I guess... Sort of. I'm just not sure what 'glorified chihuahua' means.

Using that logic I'm pretty sure rats are glorified mice.

On a side note, I'm having a hard time figuring out if my neighbors dog is a long haired chi or a pap but that's mostly because I can't get a good look at it lol.

They don't look anything like chihuahuas to me, aside from them both being small breeds.

I think he meant it as papillons are basically a fancy name for chis. Just a little misinformed. :/

I have a fluffy black cat, now elderly, who used to hang out outside with me and follow me around the block. He also comes when I call him. Over the years at least a half dozen people have asked what breed of dog he is. Once someone asked if he was a Schipperke. So you cannot be surprised at what anyone thinks.

At our local shelter, the ferrets for adoption are kept in the cat room. It's unbelievable how often the staff gets asked what kind of cat they are.

Back on topic, IDK maybe he thought the appearance was like a glorified chi? Like the longer hair and stuff? I don't know..lol

I get asked if izzie is a siamese cat and what's wrong with her ears they're not standing up and why did i "crop" her tail. lol

People always think Teagan is a Scottish Terrier. I can see how they can mistake it, but because I see both breeds everyday. I think they look totally different like day and night and I dont understand how people can get them mixed up lol.

Maybe he only had room in his brain for one kind of small dog, ie chihuahuas; one kind of medium-sized dog, like maybe a fox terrier; and one kind of large dog. All large dogs would then be at least part Great Dane, see?

Oh, and all dogs with teeth are pit bulls.

See? It's simple when you get the hang of it.

My dad would probably ask if it was a cat;)

There used to be a farm with camels around the corner from us. My mom told my grandpa she was going to show him these neat horses down the street. Had him convinced they were extravagant horses:rolleyes:

I'm impressed they knew the word Schipperke and knew it pertained to a breed of dog. :rofl1: We got the same kind of question (what kind of dog?) whenever we walked our Siamese on a leash.

Back on topic: What a rude thing to say!

Umm, am I the only once completely amazed that someone would get a cat mixed up with a dog? I walk my cat on a leash, too, but people still at least know she's cat!

Well, I guess you could make an exception for our Siamese - this was back in the early 60s so he wasn't a common breed of cat to see, much less walking down the street on leash like a dog.

And ours, being quite fluffy, is not the traditional cat shape and he follows on our heels when we walk and comes when we call him....and people are just not very bright or observant. Buggy is, in fact a cat, and says meow even.

LOL! My kitties are Siamese, too, and also come when I call them, walk on a leash, etc.
But if I keep walking Molly I may just run into someone who does think she's a dog, lol.

LOOK AT THE ADORABLE PUPPY!
