The light one is Hello Kitty and the dark one is Speed Racer. They're around 4 months old

Awww! So cute!

Great pictures, they are adorable, especially Hello Kitty, I am so partial to panda's.

Is Hello Kitty deaf? I ask because of the all white head is related to the Waardenburg gene that causes deafness in a lot of cases (I think around 75%) and the picture of her pulling a pez head (laying in someones arms and throwing her head back) is a characteristic of deaf ferrets. I know my deaf boy does it ALL the time :D

Anyways, they are both beautiful and I'm in love!

Yep, I'm almost 100% sure he is deaf. He will try to jump on the vacuum while it's running, while Speed Racer runs away to hide. He doesn't respond if you make loud noises. He doesn't have the characteristics of some deaf ferrets, though--such as being jumpy if you surprise him.

Thanks for the comments, everyone :)

THEY ARE PRECIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad promised I could get a pair of them when we move to a house, but I have no clue when that will be. Ferrets are my favorite animals. :) (Don't tell my dogs):p

sooo cute...
deafie ferts make just as good pets as any other :p
i never had an issue with jumpiness but when i had ferts my deafie was more nippy in play than the others...the vet said it was because she could never hear the protests of her playmates when she bit too hard.

she was also MUCH more talkative.

I love ferrets! When I don't have anymore rats, mice, or hamsters (so the next 3 years) I want to get a pair of ferrets even though they are illegal here! (I even have the cage already! A double Ferret Nation!)

Rabies, officially . .. that and they are "wild" animals . . . which is funny because they were domesticated by the Romans . . . oh, and many people are afraid of them. These days, especially with them all being sold fixed and there being effective shots for them, there's really no reason at all.

stupid people with stupid rules not understanding...

its actually because ferretes are considered an "environmental risk" with a potential to upset the ecosystem if they ever "escaped" which is rediculous because even raw fed ferts are HIGHLY unlikely to survive more than a few days out in the wilds...
*sigh*
it all started with the problems mink farmers were having when their Caged minks excaped and actually devastated a few of the local wild mink populations...
now ferts are in the same boat of "theres a risk we cant take it!"

the governator was last i heard still trying to change the law in cali to allow ferts...he loves the little carpet sharks!

I recently bought that cage, too. I love it--so much easier to clean

Good gawd, that is dumb. Ferrets have been domesticated for longer than cats. I remember reading ferrets are actually one of the few domesticated animals on the planet that have basically NO ability to exist without the aid of humans. There are plenty of colonies of feral horses, burros, dogs and cats. Anybody know of any colonies of feral ferrets?

Anybody who's ever owned ferrets can tell you that they wouldn't last long without their humans to pull them out of the insanely crazy and basically suicidal escapades they throw themselves into. I remember when Goku (one of my first ferrets) tried to jump OFF my third floor apartment balcony to see what was on the ground. :yikes: Thank gawd he was wearing his harness and leash! And even dangling by a leash off the edge of the balcony, he was trying to wriggle lower and get a better look.

Whoever came up with the phrase, "Curiosity killed the cat" obviously never met a ferret, LOL!

Well, if they got loose and bred, particularly in places that don't have say weasels or mink, they could be a problem. That's why they are all sold neutered. Which should eliminate the problem. A single ferret can't do much harm, and even if they could, most escaped pets would die .. . its the ones that make it and breed that should be the problem.

So: Environmental Hazard: solved, they are fixed
Rabies: fixed, they have shots for them now AND how does an indoor animal catch rabies anyway?
Wild Animal: Learn your history and don't give me that crap about not enough anatomical difference between a polecat and a ferret . . . how much difference is there between a domestic rat and a Norway rat?
Vicious: Can be, but have you ever had one?

Its fear plain and simple. People are scared of them, don't like them and think they smell. So they are banned. I will note they are not pets for everyone and they should NEVER be alone with small children and babies. EVER. Even more so than a dog. That baby who had its toes eatten off, and they blamed the pit bull, and it turned out to the be ferret? No surprise. But frankly, if you let carnivores play with your children unsupervised, that says more about your parenting than the animals.
