YES, I know! I think a lot of time people don't even notice, but it does bug me when they comment about it. The worst is the suggestion that I'm actually hurting my puppy by taping his ears down. Some people have very strong reactions.
I wonder if rough collies have the same problem? I see pictures of rough collie puppies and sometimes I can't even tell if they're taped, they're so fuzzy at that age the fur hides a lot.
My puppies don't ever notice tapes in their ears. I usually start them around 7-8wks of age. Just depends on the dog. I have some that have had VERY little tape with perfectly tipped ears.. and I have had others who needed taped the whole time they were shown. Again, just depends on the dogs.
I've been pretty lucky. Most of my dogs don't need taping much past 8-12 months. Paris my oldest smooth girl (7 this year) hasn't had ears taped at all since she was about 11 months old and they still tip perfectly!
Roughs and smooths are taped the same. The hair just hides the tape. I prefer tape to glue and can usually get about 2-3 wks out of the tape when I do ears... and its much easier to get out of the hair than glue.
I definitely prefer the tipped ears to the prick ears, I just think their expression is much softer with tipped ears... just my opinion.
